I’d never do Simpsons trivia because I know roughly 10000x more about the Simpsons than the median human being and roughly 10000x less than bearded men who do Simpsons trivia

I just love being forced out of the neighborhood I’ve lived in for half a decade just so my landlord can make a fuck ton of money doing nothing. I think we should be able to hang these people

I feel like "anti rich current reaches crescendo" is when the guillotine operators are getting OT not when you find a way to levy a new small tax on an undertaxed upper class

This viewpoint is especially easy to cling to here in our sunsetting empire, where few of us can do much more than watch our nation get stripped for parts. Society is worsening in certain obvious, quantifiable ways. The Communist Manifesto teaches us that capitalism produces its own grave-diggers above all else, but we have the rare pleasure of serving as the victims of this newfangled techno-capitalism that can't even dig a halfway decent grave. I don't think much of this current crop of masters of the universe, I don't mind telling you. At least that union-busting fuck Carnegie built a university and some nice libraries. These days billionaires would rather crow that AI is coming for all our jobs, seemingly without a thought for what tends to happen in societies where everyone but the superrich loses their livelihood at the same time. The good old days were bloody and excruciating in ways we'd find impossible to bear, with our air conditioning and our Seamless. But it's at least possible to locate some kind of moral standard in the proceedings of the past, if only because it is the past. Probably the guys who lost their lives fighting Carnegie Steel in the Homestead Strike felt some version of the same despair.

whenever people assume I am excited about a movie or show based on something I loved when I was 8 I just think about how weird it would’ve been if my dad got all pumped up about a Howdy Doody movie in 1986

The infinite growth model is one of the worst things to happen to journalism/media. At some point you reach the ceiling of people who want to read your magazine! You can just make enough money to pay people well and publish things and not grow forever!

Unmasked: '.900 is the new .915 or .920' when it comes to save percentage | NHL.com Falling NHL numbers more a product of more quality shots, less shooting volume

I need all hockey fans, especially Bruins fans to read this. Because everyone thinks their goalie sucks this year when it just isn't true when the league average save percentage is under .900 now.

Inflation, "the economy", unemployment rates etc, these things are all made up. Fantasy and science fiction. The punishing results of how the rich and media deal with the illusion they created together, however, are not.

They all translate to the same thing: you are getting fucked.

Great news! Only .15% of the US population is homeless. Hold on let me crunch the numbers though...that's a mere half million people without a home.

The “Calvin’s dad explains two types” meme, inspired by a Calvin and Hobbes cartoon.

Clockwise from top left:
1) Calvin’s dad walks into frame to find Calvin trying to operate a record player. The dad says: “There are only two industries left in America: gambling, and fraud.”

2) The dad shows where the record goes, and how to turn on the player, while Calvin watches. Dad says “Derivatives? Gambling. AI? Fraud. Video games? Gambling. Social media? Fraud.” Calvin says “yeah”.

3) With one hand open palm up, Calvin’s dad cheerfully explains to Calvin out of frame below him, “The stock market looks like gambling, but it’s actually fraud.”

4) In bed in a dark room, Calvin clutches at his pillow, eyes wide in existential terror. There is no text in the panel.
