This specimen also gives us the first non avian umbilicus (belly button).

Since the dinosaur was near sexual maturity (about 6-7 years old) when it died it implies that Psittacosaurus had its umbilicus at least until sexual maturity.

So it’s possible other non avian dinos had belly buttons too.

If you don’t know, a cloaca is a single opening used for everything, from going to the bathroom, to breeding.

The specimen was so well preserved that they even found two small bulges next to it that they believe could possibly be scent glands.

Its cloaca is similar to that of crocodilians.

Pleasantly surprised to wake up and discover it is still chilly out, after we had random thunderstorms last night.

I can usually pick up on it in a paragraph or two. I think 20 years of learning my authors' writing voices and styles has given me an ear for recognizing its agreeable flatness of tone. Its technical perfection. But it is getting harder to spot. Or I'm getting numb to it.

What I really hate are the emails and Instant messages I get from coworkers that they clearly had an LLM write (whether copilot, Claude or chatgpt). It's made me almost completely checkout. I call it matching effort for effort. Two half asses making a whole.

Only I can do it without that bullshit.

And that shit's painful to edit, too. It's repetitive in what it says and how it says it. And it often isn't even saying anything. Verbose fluff. Grammatically, it's usually textbook perfect. But it reeks of "trying to sound human" and doing it so mechanically perfect that it's uncomfortably unreal.

SAME.

I hate doing my job now because I'm questioning whether what I'm editing was written by my coworker or whether it's ai slop. It's deeply insulting to me to be using my not-cheap education and hard earned skill set to edit/check what you couldn't even be bothered to write your goddamned self.

And then finding out how many people are perfectly fine with it.

Fine with who it benefits, who it hurts, and what it steals, and burns, and robs us of.

It's unnecessary. It's infuriating. It's depressing. It's exhausting.

This is how ai taints reality.
Because we all now question "is this real or ai slop?" about books, videos, NEWS, art, music, recipes, comics—or if something has ai shoved into it like new computers, phones, appliances, pool equipment, apps, cars, and on and on and on and on ad fucking nauseum.

This ai "music" thing pisses me off because it fooled me and now that I know, it's tainted listening to music because not only am I going to question every recent musical artist (or not?) I think I've discovered, I'm going to stop and question every unfamiliar song I hear going forward forever.
