Non quiescam

Listen: I don’t fear the end,
only an end without end,
knowing nothing, feeling less,
torture and the deadened nerve,
anesthetic holy light.

(Nothing ever changes here.)

When I go, let it destroy
eternity. Let every dream
fall lightly on my bones, and hum,
singing in a world to come.

First half of a poem titled "looming":

Nighttime: open the window,
hear the hum of passing cars,

trains that sing like phantoms
no photograph could cradle,

a wind in your bones
(as hollow as wings).

Pull the highway, the tracks
like threads: all things collapse –

this moment is all moments
and none are yours to hold:

voices you won’t hear again,
old cats learning new scents,
decals in the windows, cracks in the walls,
sunflowers that bloom for decades.

You have always been under these blankets.
You have always been leaving.

I guess I'm trying NaPoWriMo again this year. This is from the set of prompts by Irshaad Poetry (@irshaadpoetry on IG). Day 1: "saying goodbye to your childhood home."

feels like we are all conspiracy theorists sneering at the "normies," dispensing our self-aggrandizing bon mots so we can build our personal ~*brands*~ as the Smartest Kids on the Internet, and it's... bad, actually

not to get all Socratic over here, but like, come on. come ON.

psst, lazy generalized misanthropy and the unshakeable belief that you are one of the "smart ones" amidst all the "unwashed illiterates" still make you as extremely twelve years old as everyone else under the "everyone is twelve now" theory

anyway, I'm juggling three different creative projects I'm trying to finish or mostly finish while also frantically preparing to leave the country for a while, so, uh, good planning on my part. "nonstop panic mode" is probably an understatement

fuck ICE and fuck all of these fascist monsters. I don't have anything more articulate to say about it after years of yelling and if I did, it wouldn't be as Content™ to feed the inevitable enrichment/censorious agenda of techbros, but, like, let the record stand

it would be nice not to feel sick to my stomach with disgust for one (1) day

continuing with Cookie Opinions:
Thin Mints are overrated (good, but again, unquestioned #1 every year? really?)
Trefoils are underrated
Tagalongs are the best (Peanut Butter Patties are also the best but *less* the best)
bring back Savannah Smiles, you cowards

chocolate chip cookies are good, but undeserving of their unquestioned hegemony. every time I present a bounty of options I could bake or bring and the answer is inevitably "oh, just chocolate chip :)" I die a little inside. life is fleeting; eat a fucking snickerdoodle

Glad to hear it!

I don't disagree with what you're saying, fwiw, but as someone who was retaliated against for helping to organize my workplace and would have been homeless very quickly if I hadn't had family able to help, the stakes of "doing the right thing" look a lot different from down here

So you'll be first in line for mutual aid to support people when they do the right thing, right? 🙂

I will never stop being shocked when I play Scrandle and realize just how many venues are apparently allergic to the concept of melted cheese

I've been thinking this for a long time. My half-complete, abandoned MSLIS is constantly yelling at me from the mental corner it occupies.

it's important to have realistic expectations, which is to say: don't have expectations

out: "2026 is going to be better for me"
in: "I have ensured that my 2026 is going to be *very different* which is probably better by default, and at least interesting if not"

Few things more exhilarating than finishing your yearly reading goal with two hours to spare, if I'm being honest

I guess the alt text doesn't work if you're uploading the GIF from outside Bluesky, so...

I enjoy whenever an entire household is beholden to the whims of one cat

This animal just standing in the living room, screaming, while the human adults explain "Sorry, Gibby likes it when we smack his ass with a cardboard tube for 10mins at 6pm every day, hold on". That is good to me.

I was going to make the joke about a band called Dunning-Kruger Overdrive, but apparently people have been making that joke since at least 2012, so I'll just keep not posting
