I remember when it was public enemy #1, the catalyst for all the bad times that followed, the most hated game in the fandom.

I remember when it was the last time Sonic was good, the introduction of the series' most iconic elements, and if only they'd make 'em like this again, Sonic would be okay.

I can feel that.

Automata was the cathartic realisation of all the potential I saw in the original game. Gameplay through storytelling fully realised and taken to the next level.

…But Replicant’s party will always have my heart.

I actually think its secret sauce isn’t so much the pacing, and moreso that it’s pretty much the only KH game where the atmosphere is king, rather than plot or characters.

Not that much happens, and it’s more about soaking in that mix of nostalgic wonder and lingering creepiness.

Think N64 Zelda.

God, you get me.

Kingdom Hearts 1 has such a unique blend of genres and is loaded with detail that I can constantly find little new things about it.

Even the combat has more going than it’s given credit for. Of the two vanilla PS2 games I appreciated this one being the more challenging.

I feel like Cross is this beautiful exercise in atmosphere and subtext with a pretty fun gameplay system for the first two thirds.

…then you get to Chronopolis and the game turns into a crappier version of Xenogears and just loses me.

Those first two thirds are DAMN good tho.

I admit I did resonate more with Chrono Trigger, which is weird because Cross should be more my vibe. But maybe because of that is why its stumbles bother me more.

Jay managing to successfully mod in Crystal Tools and make it look this good. The absolute madlad.

Banger game. Genuinely challenging, it’s got the most legitimately tense and oppressive atmosphere of all 3 PS1 games, and Nemesis and the choice system make for a very fluid, replayable experience.

Definitely up there as a survival horror classic.

I bounced off it pretty hard last time I played it, but it’s an undeniably gorgeous game with an interesting story and battle system.

The game REALLY drags though. Definitely one of those games that’d be way better if it was like 15 hours shorter.

I get the sense that a lot of what was originally planned for X was repurposed into 2 and especially 3

So ch 13 is this sort of blend of the original idea for a sequel, mixed with some new stuff to tie it closer to that numbered entries, and in that role it’s serviceable.

As someone who really enjoyed furry visual novels but got into them a little later and missed Morenatsu’s period of relevance, it always feels like ‘do not cite the deep magic to me’ moment when it gets brought up.

Though I guess there is that fan remake on the way…

Combining life-sim and RPG dungeon crawling makes for some of the most dopamine inducing ‘numbers go up’ gameplay loops.

Killer aesthetic all round. They’re all bangers despite their flaws.

3 is ‘the best one’
4 is ‘the one I’m most fond of’
5 is ‘the one I’d reccomend’

Goddammit, it does actually kinda work.

Goes pretty hard. Sonic’s gameplay is a fast paced take on a 3D platformer where nearly every level is a banger.

Every other character is hit or miss but I still like it overall.

DX is unfortunately a very shoddy port. Sucks that it’s the most readily available version.
