SOME THINGS TO REMEMBER DURING AUTISM ACCEPTANCE MONTH - DON'T LIGHT IT UP BLUE AUTISM "AWARENESS" ISN'T NEEDED A symbol used by Autism Speaks, an organization condemned by autistics for painting autism as a disease, looking for a cure and collecting money that doesn't go towards actually helping autistic individuals. Light it up blue also implies that only boys can have autism. A theory that leads to many girls being misdiagnosed, Most people already know Autism exists. Autism Acceptance is what we want to advocate for ABA THERAPY IS TRAUMATIC If vou ask most adult autistics that have had aba therapy they will tell you it wasn't a good experience and some will even say they were traumatized. ABA is somewhat a conversion therapy. It forces autistics to do things that might be physically painful for them to do such as forcing them to have a sensory overload. ABA is child abuse and can lead to PTSD and s*icide THINGS TO DO . Use the infinity symbol to show support for neurodivergence • Do research • Listen to actual autistics DON'T USE THE PUZZLE PIECE There is an ableist history behind the puzzle piece. It has been used to dehumanize and infantilize autistic people for many years. It also implies that people with autism are incomplete. The puzzle piece is mostly used by Autism Speaks
