Lantern's Glow by Anemone Moss Its a short story, lets be clear about that for sure. But that works to its benefit. It builds up the world on earth super well; we see how broken the corporate hellscape is and then its (spoiler) juxtaposed from the information beyond Earth; vague hints at something truly dangerous and terrifying. There's obviously tons of attempt as cosmic horror in media. Think stuff like Dead Space and so on. They're good for sure, but like... At certain point the "gore" factor that is so often used does kinda lose its horrifying potential. Like, don't get me wrong, I still love gory horror, but I more wince at the violence than am actually scared by it. But Anemone in so few words has conveyed something bone chilling. I don't want to spoil it. Its such a short story and its on their itch-io page for free like... Just go read it. The prose is heavy and weighty and the DREAD. THE DREAD I FELT AT THE LAST PARAGRAPH. OH ITS BEEN A LONG WHILE SINCE ANYTHING MADE ME FEEL THAT WAY. I hope Anemone does more in this vein. Definitely excited for their next work whenever it drops :3

Ohhhh, this one actually scared me. The ending literally gave me CHILLS.

I don't think I've ever seen someone convey the real dread of cosmic horror in such an effective way. Its really, really, really good. I couldn't sleep after finishing it XD

and i'm proud of keeping up with my writing despite enough distractions and crises that would have definitely pulled me away from it in previous years.

i've also met a lot of new people this year. i don't know if i'm getting any better at socializing or if i'm just having to do it a lot more. i hope the connections i've developed stay strong.

spent the first substantial chunk of time in another country since i've been an adult and i'm still grappling with that experience. just being out of the US and all it's bullshit political problems was such a relief, even if i was doing so in a high-stress context the whole time.

2025 has been a fucking ridiculous year, so many ups and downs it's hard to even keep track. Did a ton of stuff, made friends, lost friends, traveled all over the west coast, wrote a lot, read a lot. I haven't had a break for the past three or four months until this last week.
