Even within a game, I suspect you're fighting the fact that a lot of text *should* be skipped—generic lines you've already seen, for instance, or lengthy flavor text you can come back to when you're not in the middle of something. It's a hard problem.

It's honestly wild how reflexive some of it is. I'm an inveterate talk-to-everyone-read-everything player and a huge IF fan, and it *still* takes conscious effort to override my brain's "skim past that" instinct when it triggers on the wrong block of game text.

Since time of posting, I've modded my helmet to let me equip a second item to the face slot, so now I also wear the severed face of an enemy when shopping. Another +1.

Standing at the bottom of a long hallway absolutely *packed* with tiny purple ickslugs. Almost every single tile is filled by one, aside from the one tile containing their snailmother. (Thankfully, they're all shown in green on the minimap.)
