“My team won’t get that” = “I don’t get that”
San Jose's beautiful Saint James's Park just after sunrise, as seen through an advertising wrap on a light rail train.
As I bike over the Hillsborough bridge each morning there is a row of seagulls perched on the railing. As I approach, each one of them flies off to the west and then presumably circles back and returns once I'm past, and I feel like I'm in a dance routine on the Lawrence Welk show.
I hear that you can run high speed rail on electricity, and I’ve heard that there are several ways to generate it that don’t require a perpetual supply of fossil fuels.
That’s not exactly how I remember Norm Abram saying it
“But before we use any power tools, let’s take a moment to talk about shop safety…”
Actually he gave a shit about the day before. Apparently Abe got shot on the 14th but hung on until after midnight.
Seriously, this is how I find out that Abe Lincoln died on the Ides of April? (and also that Jackie Robinson debuted for the Dodgers?)
But where did he take his Hippocratic Oath? Check, and mate!
The e-bike only saves me 3 or 4 minutes most days, but 25-30 mph headwind gusts are not uncommon here and they have ceased to matter with the e-bike. 18 minutes, every damn time, regardless of traffic or weather, and I get to breathe the air and watch the birds as I roll past. Perfection.
I just purchased an e-bike as an upgrade on my previous non-electric hybrid. I live about 6km from my work, with a multi-use path most of the way. My commute now takes 18 minutes, always. I have a pannier so I can detour past the butcher and the grocer to pick up things for dinner.
It’s fairly telling of the order of things that Canada almost immediately defaulted to the government taking a financial hit to provide gas price relief, without paying for it through a windfall tax even being floated as a serious possibility.
I saw the following headline on the Postmedia sites yesterday:
The U.K. Tories need help. And they're turning to Pierre Poilievre's Conservatives for advice
and I couldn't help but think "well there's your problem right there..."
Secretly I’m hoping to have an army of Keanu Reaves’s following me around campus today
That was indeed one of the questions

I have decided that the rain will make the grass green up. That and the fact that I don’t have to shovel rain are bringing some degree of contentment
Bought a couple of those number birthday candles for my daughter’s birthday cake. As I was opening the package I saw that it advertised “Lead free wicks”, and now I have a bunch of questions
“To my family, staff, friends, and supporters…”. Considering the alleged behaviour he’s apologizing for, it seems to me there’s an important group that he neglected to include in his apology.
Do the people of Grassy Narrows get a vote on that, or no?
Those North American jobs are more likely being outsourced to low cost labour centres than they are to AI
was once New Amsterdam.
The sun is doing OK here, but temps are hovering near zero right now in Stratford-on-Hillsborough and there is a substantial north wind. I won’t regret waiting for a few more degrees on the thermometer.
Dogs ain’t walked (hoping that the afternoon sun will be a bit more pleasant), but chicken stock on the stove, a batch of bread made and cooling, heat pump filters cleaned, fridge freezer organized, and a mug of warm tea at my side
John McCain was onto something when he condemned UFC as "human cockfighting."
Disappointed (not surprised) that the Liberal Party voted against supporting proportional representation at their convention.
What better time than now to go beyond the Anglosphere and learn from better systems in other countries?
Yes. Why have a society when you can have an economy.
I’m not sure it will in any sustained way since it’s likely to remain shitty at doing any task one might reasonably consider applying it to. It absolutely will continue to drive up the cost of things, degrade local environments, and exacerbate the climate crisis though.
