"You may also need to recover road capacity
from other purposes to support driving." The Trump administration urges governors and mayors to take away bus lanes, bike lanes and sidewalks to support more driving. No kidding - straight from USDOT head Sean Duffy to every gov and mayor in America

Despite mayor’s assurances, more people than ever are homeless in Portland Mayor Keith Wilson and others have said homelessness may be decreasing in Portland, despite Multnomah County data showing the opposite.

At Mayor Wilson's State of the City address Friday, he again relied on anecdote -- not data -- to prove his response to homelessness is working.

@lmonghughes.bsky.social digs into the numbers today:

The average federal income tax for an individual is 14.5%.

But in 2025, Google’s parent company, Alphabet, paid just an 8% tax rate.

Meta paid just 3.75%.

Amazon paid just 1.37%.

Palantir and Tesla paid nothing.

What do mayors think about the housing shortage? Democrats & Republicans think differently www.governing.com/urban/what-m...

Survey of mayors: Dem mayors more likely to think there is a housing shortage, zoning is a problem, & middle housing is needed.

Relatively more bipartisan support for TOD.

The effective federal corporate income tax rate:

1950: 50%
1990: 25%
2020: 13%

Stop asking "but how we will pay for it?" Restore the corporate tax rate.

That is how we will pay for it.

a broken up piece of road next to the sidewalk.

People on bikes aren’t swerving to annoy drivers, they’re just trying not to die or destroy their mode of transportation.
This is generally what the bike portion looks like of our “shared” roads. Glorious.

NYT: Iran War Live Updates: Trump Escalates Threat to Hit Iranian Power Plants After U.S. Rescues Downed Airman
President Trump used an expletive-laden social media post to taunt Iranian leaders, saying that the United States would attack if they did not fully reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

NYT: Iran War Live Updates: Trump Escalates Threat to Hit Iranian Power Plants After U.S. Rescues Downed Airman President Trump used an expletive-laden social media post to taunt Iranian leaders, saying that the United States would attack if they did not fully reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

NYT: President Trump on Sunday escalated his threats to bomb Iranian power plants within the next two days and taunted the country’s leaders in an expletive-laden social media post.

Mr. Trump, seemingly emboldened by the successful U.S. rescue of an American airman in Iran over the weekend, issued a new ultimatum to Iran to end its chokehold over the Strait of Hormuz, a major Persian Gulf waterway for the transport of oil and gas, by Apr. 6.

If Iran’s government did not, he said, U.S. forces would target the country’s energy infrastructure, which supplies power for millions of civilians.

“Tuesday will be Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day, all wrapped up in one, in Iran. There will be nothing like it!!!” Mr. Trump wrote on social media. The president has previously postponed his deadline to attack twice and the Omani foreign ministry said on Sunday that officials had discussed how to reopen the Strait of Hormuz with Iranian counterparts without reaching a definitive agreement.

“Praise be to Allah,” Mr. Trump added, before signing off in all caps.

Iran has threatened to retaliate by intensifying its attacks on critical infrastructure in Israel and Arab states that are allied with the United States. An escalation could further derail the lives of civilians throughout the region and add to worries about the global economy, which has been rattled by soaring energy prices since the start of the war.

Over the past two days, the U.S. military has been in a race with Iranian armed forces to find the missing airman after an F-15E jet was shot down over Iran on Friday, in the first known instance of a U.S. combat aircraft since the start of the war.

The plane’s pilot was quickly rescued. But a second officer was stranded in Iran and injured in the incident. American commandoes found the airman deep inside Iranian territory under the cover of darkness.

The New York Times deleted Trump’s “open the fuckin’ strait” line to make him look less insane

Their write-up falsely says his post says only “Tuesday will be Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day, all wrapped up in one, in Iran. There will be nothing like it!!!” and “Praise be to Allah”

A used bike from a cycle shop can cost less than a tank of fuel, but will last for years and thousands of miles with minimal maintenance.

The next tipping point in the energy transition is approaching.

Overall, solar has already been cheaper than fossil power for a while, but upfront costs used to be higher.

That's no longer the case. Solar is now competitive upfront AND has vastly lower operating costs (no fuel).

Trump to revoke protections for endangered species in Gulf of Mexico President is convening so-called ‘God squad’ to override provisions of Endangered Species Act for ‘national security’

47's "God squad” of top officials convenes today to vote on revoking protections for endangered species in the Gulf of Mexico. Why? To expand oil & gas operations.

They may kill off dozens of protected species—from Rice’s whales & whooping cranes to sea turtles. Only about 51 Rice’s whales remain.

It’s Equal Pay Day — and for the second year in a row, the gender pay gap is moving in the wrong direction.

In 2026, women are still making just 81 cents on the dollar for the same work. That’s unacceptable.

Same work. Same pay. It really is that simple.

Anarchist literature is now evidence of terrorism, according to the government. As is wearing black at a protest, carrying a first aid kit, or using Signal.

Horrifying stuff is happening, it's happening quickly, and not nearly enough people are paying attention to it.
