My paper "Metric-induced non-Hermitian physics" is now published in @SciPostPhys! I show how non-Hermitian physics such as skin effect and non-unitary time evolution can emerge naturally from an effective spacetime curvature.

Nonhermitian topological zero modes at smooth domain walls: Exact solutions The bulk-boundary correspondence predicts the existence of boundary modes localized at the edges of topologically nontrivial systems. The wavefunctions of hermitian boundary modes can be obtained as t...

In our recent preprint, we extend the analytical solutions describing topological zero modes localized at smooth phase boundaries to the nonhermitian case.

Metric-induced nonhermitian physics I consider the long-standing issue of the hermicity of the Dirac equation in curved spacetime metrics. Instead of imposing hermiticity by adding ad hoc terms, I renormalize the field by a scaling func...

Magnetic fields (gauge) and gravitational fields (metrics) are very distinct entities. Yet, surprisingly, they are equivalent under a "rotation" combining position and momentum
x,p → x+p,x-p

Yes, I agree, it is very abstract 😃 but broken symmetry is the only thing in common between the two process, which are very different otherwise. Of course there is no pattern recursion here, no fractality, no self-similarity at different scales…

At some level of abstraction, the two processes are very similar. You start with something which has approximately spherical symmetry and you end up with something that breaks this symmetry

It’s the same picture. It’s all breaking of mirror symmetry.

In our recent work, we find exact solutions for topologically-protected zero modes at smooth and exponentially-confined boundaries between trivial and nontrivial phases. This generalizes the exact solutions of Dirac equations with domain walls, i.e., Jackiw-Rebbi solitons.
