I had top surgery a year ago. Just saw a video of myself from 2024 and started yelling "LOOK AT THOSE HUGE TITS! WHAT THE HELL?"

It would seem I made the correct move. 🙂 🍉 ✂️

I understand that a lot of people are strapped for cash right now, and medical care is very hard to come by.

But it sounds like my mom was just pleased as punch that she had saved money and outsmarted the system.

I can't fucking deal, guys.

Apparently my dad had a suspicious growth, and mom was determined to not spend $1,000 for a surgical removal. Fuck that, amirite? So she treated it herself, she said,

with

table

salt.

I am hearing this secondhand, and thank God for that, because even this far removed, WHAAAAT?!?

I want to teach biology. It's seen as one of the "squishier" sciences. Reading about biologists like Nikolai Vavilov or Zhu Xi, whose careers and lives were destroyed just because they said, "Hey, y'all aren't quite doing science right" - makes me respect biology as a discipline more.

Eliminate Sparrows campaign - Wikipedia

Yeah, local shit is fucked up, but I have been reading tonight about the crazy famines brought about by psuedoscience and general asshattery in the 20th century. Chinese kids were encouraged to exterminate "pest" birds after school, which led to more insect pests.

Post from Gillian Branstetter @GBBranstetter: If enforcing gender norms requires a constant state of surveillance and censorship then they probably aren't as biological or innate as you think they are.

ME: I can now swear upon my father's grave.
FRIEND: He doesn't mean anything to you, though.
ME: You're right. I hate my dead dad.
(Beat)
ME: Actually, I have no problems with my dead dad. Living dad, yes. Dead dad gives me no sass - he's fine.

If only we had a functioning government that would DO ITS JOB and not let CLINICALLY INSANE PEOPLE call the shots.

When going no contact with my parents, I left a window open. I said to let me know when they had been in counseling for one year.

My father woke up in the morning and decided I wasn't worth it - over 6,000 times.

My sister is grieving the loss of her dad.

He's been dead to me for a long time.

A drawing of my tabby cat, Otter, done in rough digital pencil lines over flat areas of gray and cream with white highlights and details in blunt lines. He is sitting in profile to the left with his head turned to look directly at the viewer with his normal cryptic expression. Chunky orange lettering surrounding him above and below reads ‘Maybe it will happen today’.

One of my friends has AS. This is an immune disease that causes your bones to fuse - unless you get treatment.

United Healthcare has denied treatments, despite appeals. Without them, she will lose the. Ability. To. Walk.

Apparently UHC has learned absolutely nothing.

the last month has felt like watching a toddler touch a hot stove and then go "OUCH" and then every rich person who thinks they're smart says "thank god he won't do that again" and bets 1 trillion that he won't touch the stove again. also the kitchen we're all standing in is on fire.

I am laughing at myself because I was all proud that I asked a friend - a Black man whose parents had very different opinions about education than my own... and he talked about being a token Black male. "Well, I interviewed someone of a different race," internally boasts this absolute dunce. 🤣

We were assigned a project for my Diverse Perspectives in Education class wherein we needed to interview someone with a different identity than us. Some white young ladies chose their white boyfriends because they were more conservative, and male. Technically fits, I guess? But... Really?

Something worth considering: it is incredibly radicalizing to hear the media lie about something you personally saw

9 million people are at home right now going "what the fuck, tens of thousands of people marched in my city alone"

Some percentage are gonna wonder what else the media is lying about

3) Also, I am pretty confident you cannot draw blood from one person and Use Their Antibodies to immediately cure hundreds of people who are on the brink of death. Or can you? Someone tell me if I'm wrong.

2) This is called "passive immunity." It's a temporary measure to help clump up and destroy microbes. What you ultimately hope for is "active immunity," where your body's T-cells and B-cells "learn" the antigen and bolster the defenses themselves. Of course, not everyone has the ability to do this.

1) I'm a biology major. Here's what movies get wrong about antibodies. Constantly.

While your body CAN make its own antibodies after being exposed to a microbe, AND you can transfer those antibodies to others, anyone who receives them does NOT gain the ability to make their own antibodies.
