Similarly, Palantir calls for national military service. This is a common and unfortunate affliction of middle-aged and older men, akin to an interest in the Roman Empire or World War II. Its simply not something you see many men in their 20s promote for obvious I-would-prefer-not-to-die reasons. Charitably, it reflects a sense of a desire for creating shared meaning among the young that the elderly perceive is lacking, or to coerce the elite into sharing the cost of military conflict. Uncharitably, it is the old telling the young how to live and risk their lives.

We all have personal views, but the manifesto completely merges Palantir and Karp's vision. Why should a tech company have a manifesto that includes rearming Germany or Japan, or calls for national military service?
Turning opinions into political manifestos demands allegiance or opposition.

Meta is set to overtake Google on digital ad revenue -- largely thanks to smart AI content recommendations. But my @opinion.bloomberg.com column today argues this the last hurrah of Meta's Web 2.0 legacy business -- not a sign of strength for the AI era.

Exclusive: Can AI judge journalism? A Thiel-backed startup says yes, even if it risks chilling whistleblowers Objection, a Thiel-backed startup, aims to use AI to judge journalism, letting users pay to challenge stories. Critics warn it could chill whistleblowers and reshape how media accountability works.

A white garment with some kind of food stain. Humiliating.

A pair of dirty hands rest on a car engine. Rough, tough, cool.

A pair of dirty hands rest on a car engine. Rough, tough, cool.

Here is an easy solution:

Food stains are humiliating, as they suggest you're a little baby who can't feed themselves.

Oil stains, such as those you'd get from working on your car, suggest you're tough, independent, and skilled.

Thus, simply cover your food stains with used motor oil.

Amazing that Apple's approach to anything even approaching consenting porn is "not on your life, you filthy pervert" and its approach to nonconsensual porn is, basically, "well, what can ya do"

This means that victims seeking help removing nonconsensual intimate content are shown a sales pitch before they see the free removal page for a given platform.

As Rachel writes: “When it comes to nonconsensual nudes, finding the ‘Report’ button shouldn't require a credit card.”

Briefing: Google shows ads when people search for help removing intimate images Plus: X pays clickbait accounts a little less

Today on @indicator.media’s free Briefing: Google ran ads on search results for queries about removing nonconsensual intimate imagery (NCII).

Most of the ads promoted generic content removal products that don’t provide a tailored service for NCII. Most importantly, all of them are paid services.

Important report by @ttp-updates.bsky.social shows the continued infuriating and unsurprising prevalence of AI nudifiers apps on the app stores.

So much this. And ideally they would do so with a two-pronged approach that recognizes the reality of the situation. Mandatory removal is less useful than going after the tools themselves (as the EU is promising to), the infra (California) and teaching kids that this stuff is *not OK*
