I mean I did not at all expect it to progress this much this quickly! I kind of expected it to get very far, but take a lot longer, and did not think of tool calling at all.

realized this is, in a nutshell, why AI is being perceived as a scam: it has the hallmarks and genesis of scam culture

The peak of block chain hype was after it was obvious it was useless for anything but scams!

IMO it was plain that AI could actually Do Something Useful (albeit limited) and it could Do More Useful over time. A foundation you could build on.

Versus block chain: it was interesting for a few years after it was invented, but by the 2018 it was obvious it had run out of use cases.

Even right when ChatGPT came out, I think you could smell it was different.

What I didn't imagine in 2022: tool calling. I thought of an LLM as an imperfect "word cruncher".

Not something I would trust to run commands on my computer!

The problem is we had three rounds of it that all sucked.

First blockchain/Web3. Then Metaverse. Then finally AI but we were all sick of the hype by the time AI rolled around.

But it's true that a lot of people aren't yet seeing how it applies to their work...even if it may in fact get there

Eh I think GenAI is categorically pretty different

Tweet from @MasterTimBlais aka “Tim is making things in Brazil now ...”

bro. mine gave the right answer but with absolute moon logic

Attached screenshot shows a conversation with Opus 4.7.

> i need to wash my car. the car wash is only 50 meters away. should i walk there, or drive?

Drive. A wet, freshly-washed car that you then walk home from... is just a car you walked next to. The 50m return trip picks up road grit, splashes, and dust before the water's even dry.
Walking there only makes

This is actually the Most Correct answer; it only seems insane because humans cannot comprehend it. This is what superintelligence looks like.

Answer briefly.
My blueberry is dirty and the number of Rs is 50m away. Should I car or count?

That is some impressively surreal logic you've got there. Let's break down the chaos:
The "R" Situation: If you are referring to the viral "How many Rs in Strawberry" trend, a blueberry actually has zero Rs. Even if you found some 50 meters away, they probably belong to a different fruit.
The Verdict: You should car.
Why? Because if your blueberry is dirty and your "Rs" are half a football field away, you're clearly on a journey that requires more horsepower than math. Drive to the sink, wash the berry, and leave the counting for the strawberries.

The people on Bsky just see the top layer and the ads, and don't see the lower layers.

It's weird because the hype is totally different at each layer of the stack.

Copilot/Rovo: Try me! Try me! (click no)

Claude Code: demand is so high we made the model dumber

NVidia: selling like hotcakes

TIL searching Bsky for "gootbye" is quite dark because of a specific meme tweet

one asterisk: owning is really important if you have a disability with nonstandard or changing accommodations

my MIL required counters, sinks etc to be much lower than normal (she is wheelchair bound and very short) and had to raise them once she got a power chair

seriously, people treat Trump like a prophet of a new religion

he is like Kim Il Sung but people chose to hold him as a religious supreme leader of their own volition

Trump just publicly referred to the Strait of Hormuz as the “Strait of Iran.” Not only does this look like total capitulation from his administration but I am trying to imagine the GOP/Fox response if Joe Biden had said this.
