An image of the main cover for The Avenging Metaist.
An image of page 9 of The Avenging Metaist. It introduces a character identified as "Shiyu," who loudly and happily greets the protagonist, calling him "Otaku." He awkwardly responds to her greeting.
An image of page 10 of The Avenging Metaist. The narration introduces Shiyu as "a gal who's kind to otaku," as the two continue to talk.
The Avenging Metaist (復讐のメタイスト) is an absolutely crazy oneshot. There's a lot more to it than just this, but...
I actually burst out laughing when I read the two pages I share below. I wonder what would happen to "gyaru who's kind to otaku" discourse if they read this…
Oh, I guess I should say that it's specifically as they relate to the comic industries of both America and Japan. That's a pretty specific element to my research and project.
I've been really getting into looking into the history of typography—specifically for English and Japanese (and their similarities and differences). Unfortunately there are a lot of blind spots in my research…
If everything goes well, this will hopefully accumulate into a font.
TETSUJIN SUNDAY! NOW!
Heck yeah! Gotta give some appreciation to the original giant robot, with his hulking frame menacing the sky. We just don't see a lot of designs like that much anymore!
Hi, this is maybe a big question, but I've been wondering about this myself for a while—what should alt text for comics look like? I've heard that there's a sweet spot between too little info and too *much* for alt text, but comics are such a dense visual format that I'm not sure what would be best.
superhero ocs.
Ooo... I'd be curious to know more about both of these, especially Sr. Magnifico—a very fun design! I like the spikes (?) on the back.
a comic featuring two little girls arguing "my dad's better than your dad since he's taller!" "my dad could beat your dad because he's really strong!!" "no! my dad beats your dad because mine is totally cool! he's always staying up really late working on making video games!" "well, my dad beats yours because he gets a healthy amount of sleep so he's gonna live longer!"

"Body Tea"?
*Remembers the naming scheme for Homeric epic poetry*
Ah, yes—the story of Bodyteus!
(Guy who's trying to shift English to be linguistically more like Japanese) Now that it's a bad omen to count out loud and say "six, seven," maybe we need to use an alternative pronunciation to avoid it; I suggest that "seven" can instead be "nana."
Illustration Sketch Commissions There are three options: $20 USD: Lineart $40 USD: Simple Colors $60 USD: Complex Colors The prices may change if the sketch features a lot of characters or a super complex design that you don't want simplified, but those prices should mostly hold up. I accept payment through Paypal and you can contact me at chase42burns@gmail.com Though this is not all I'll do! I'm completely open to doing more complicated artworks (like comics, paintings, character/mechanical designs, or video game assets) and I would love to work with others on projects. So reach out and we can discuss prices if you're interested in something like that!
I'm officially opening illustration sketch commissions for the first time!
I'm sure I'll work out kinks in the process as I figure it out, and I may end up increasing my prices, but for the time being this is all the right info! Thanks for checking it out!
