of course getting over the motivation hurdle is still tough tho...
fugo's work on botan #02 had a similar effect on me that DiY #06 did, with how hyper appealing it is to me. it's just the type of episode that's so artistically accomplished and confident that it makes you want to pick up the pencil with how well defined the forms, amongst many of fugo's traits
i'm invested in ibuki x botan but gujo-senpai deserves a happy ending, imo
honestly the most insane thing about botan is that fake mizore is the one that's the cuckold. what did Hey mean by this lol

my brain was tired okay
上伊那ぼたんのOPの作監やりました よろしくお願いします。
trying to achieve something that holistically stylised may have been too unreasonably demanding tho... ideally, i feel like i wanted something in a similar vein to how dragon's heaven looks, but the result the anime team has arrived at is commendable
other than her unique panelling skills, the moebius influence in shirahama's artwork is something i love a lot to the point i find it instrumental to its identity. it really makes you feel like you're peering into another world with how characteristic those marks are
the art direction too is pretty well accomplished, but stylistically i do miss one important thing from the manga, and this extends to the designs as well, but...
the designs have also had a great balance between the level of attractive detail in some shots, and the fun cartoony looseness in others. hope it holds up but the character art has been consistently nice to look at
coco is a chicore character so i very much appreciated the latest episode fleshing out the emotional beats of this section early on - the additions beautifully intertwine the value of her mother's teachings with her own newfound magic that really helped elevate the material a lot
i have been enjoying the WTA adaptation a lot more than i expected. it's been a while since i have read some of the manga, but the anime has been well accomplished both in its aesthetic and narrative flourishes so far. the team is clearly invested in doing justice to such challenging material

in the tentative cover you can see those smol balls in curvilinear perspective in the backdrop that he's quite fond of drawing but also kinda owns at. mazesoba kami...
been a loooong time coming for atsushi saito to finally get an illustration collection of his character design projects, especially with his own genga. fastest preorder i have made in a bit!

settings that are just so systemically bleak to the core, among the likes of jin-roh and texhnolyze are just... deeply hard for me to fundamentally vibe with y'know? at the very least, it was a very successful character study on yuki in a truly deranged world with some ingenious storytelling methods
i also finished shiboyugi a couple of days ago... and unfortunately didn't like it as much as i wanted to. mostly due to personal reasons, which is frustrating since ueno's work is so visually arresting here, and the fact that he still approaches material with a very sincere and thoughtful mindset
two believably awkward individuals navigating the heavy anxieties and grief they carry, coupled with v effective direction conveying the gap within the physical space they share? beautiful show... i'm very curious about how they rearranged things slightly, so will pick up the manga afterwards
catching up with winter anime i have missed due to being busy, and friends sure weren't kidding about ikoku nikki. you can already tell early on how special this series feels with the level of grace and maturity it handles these incredibly humane characters. likely to be my fave work this year
