I dunno Miku, I'm kinda in a ditch that I accidentally dug myself into and instead of just asking for a ladder I'm insisting the Popsicle sticks I brought with can be put together into a functional ladder.

Anyways tl;dr please take care of your systems cause there's a point where finding good replacement parts to fix them becomes either scarce or very costly. But much like genshin, I'm far too invested financially so now I gotta see it through to then end

AT THAT POINT JUST BUY A WORKING MODEL OH MY GODDDD FML

I just want to do it justice... fix it up so it can be the best it can be. The more of these we can save, the better. But it's growing harder each day with cheap aftermarket parts that don't do what they're supposed to do, along with resellers pulling them from working models to flip for a fortune.

New 3DS XL with the Top Screen doing a weird glow at the edge. Erm, awkward?

Oh my god (there's a big dent that looks like the sprint logo underneath the white sticker, probably causing that weird glow.) It also looks like this on the bottom as well

Gaslighting and manipulation IT DID TURN ON WHEN I GOT IT.... 7 MONTHS AGO. Home button never worked, the dpad also wouldn't register any inputs, and again that dent causing strain on the top screen. Touch screen also felt... finicky. Screens also have a slight yellowing around the edges :(

But that's not to undermine what I've accomplished so far! This unit wouldn't even turn on over a week ago! Sure the home button still doesn't work, and now the speakers are borked, but it's in a much better shape than when I started! (I suppose I've teased it enough, here have some before pics)

This repair was supposed to be an attempt to take on a new challenge while also healing the inner child within me that's always wanted that sleek red new 3ds xl, but the more I work on this thing the more it becomes a nightmare. A nightmare that pushes me just beyond my skill level unfortunately.

But there's just that essence that's missing from original hardware. That 3D screen, the lovely home menu, STREETPASS!! It all just comes together on the 3DS and it's a system that's so special to me, and that's why I'm making a big stink about this godforsaken repair. It means a lot to me.

"oomfie what about your ayn thor? You were hyping that up for a while" correct and I do love that thing with its beautiful oled screens, it can really just play anything I want that's retro. But... It's all just emulation, which a lot of it is great don't get me wrong.

It's also yellowed as well, which I partially blame myself for letting it sit in a box for months, but even outside that you can tell this is a cheaper aftermarket screen they made. If it wasn't yellowed I could *maybe* live without the 3D, but since it's basically a dud I must search for another.

The replacement top screen I got for my red system last year was a cheaper one I sourced from AliExpress, and it's honestly a "you get what you paid for" situation because yeah it *works*, but the 3D doesn't work so it just splits the image of the top screen and does nothing. No optical illusion.

Now FINDING the replacement screens is like a gacha game because not only is it a gamble if those screens work, but now there's factors of it yellowing, being IPS or not, and the newest one I'm struggling with: if the 3D effect works. Like are you FUCKING KIDDING ME

From what I understand, the yellowing occurs because of humidity and a defect with how the screens were manufactured? Definitely a big issue with Japanese models, but it's not too uncommon on western models either. It's not 3ds exclusive either, my DS Lite is also showing bits of yellow on the edges

Now why would a screen go bad anyways? Well an obvious answer is cracking it or damaging it, but with it being a clamshell that's a bit harder than usual. But the other issue that's the bane of my existence? Yellowing screens. How do I keep running into this on like every other system?

Finding good replacement 3DS screens is either really tough or I'm just being a cheapskate bitch (rant below)
