The Supreme Court has two ways of deciding cases. The first is the one you see on television. Lawyers argue in front of the justices.

I think (not sure) that they have gone from federal court to the appellate court whose rulings are binding. SCOTUS hears about 1% of the cases that go to them for review. I am Canadian, so I may be completely wrong.
