As for compilations/albums, try not to focus on creating each song to fit a particular vibe. Instead, make as much music as you can and find similarities in themes and the sound of the songs and see if they transition from one another well. If they don’t well, change key or make a new outro for it.
If you have been working on a song for a long time and you are completely stuck, start a new project and finish it before coming back to it. Sometimes the things you wish to create are out of your skill set. By making more music you give yourself the opportunity to learn new techniques for creation.
With a more complex song that has multiple melodies, just play around with the instruments you have and create something new out of them that has either less energy for a build up, or more energy for a breakdown/chorus.
When first making a song, decide whether you want it to be focused on drums with light melody, or heavy melody with light drums. I typically start by making a melody and adding the drums in afterwards, sometimes opting to make the drums first to find the beat I want to work with. Change approaches.
One of the best ways that I have found to get over producer’s block is to find a song you really like and pick out something that sticks out to you. Whether it be the melody, an instrument you heard, the BPM, or the key, take that as inspo and manipulate it until you see find the tone you want.
