Truly embarrassing. What are we doing here?
I was just having a conversation about this! I‘m curious, how do you typically demonstrate it to your students?
I was definitely wondering about #2 reading through this. Thanks for such an informative overview!
Tell me, when you drop bombs on giant crowds of peaceful protestors, are you the good guys?
And another Quarto announcement; I've alluded to it before, but we're making it "official".
We've started work on Quarto 2. The blog post has an overview: quarto.org/docs/blog/po...
We'll share more in future blog posts, but here's what you can expect from the Quarto 2 dev effort:

The turnaround times also seem to have gotten shorter. I’m getting more and more with responses due in 10 days even for long papers with complicated analyses and huge supplementary materials.
Infographic promoting statistical consulting as campus wide support available at ISR; text reads STATISTICAL CONSULTING and Campus wide support available at ISR with an ISR logo in the center and surrounding icons representing data analysis and visualization including a bar chart with trend line, a magnifying glass over bar charts, a laptop showing charts, a workflow diagram with a checklist, and a group of three people collaborating at a laptop.
ISR is launching a new phase of statistical consulting modeled on CSCAR @ the University of Michigan, expanding access to data analysis and research support across campus.
Led by ISR researchers @bradytwest.bsky.social and @sungheelee.bsky.social, the program supports innovation across disciplines
Oof that hurts.
Tremendous commentary here as well. This is what I assume Russian dashcam videos are saying in Russian.
lady of sophistication @janky_jane Props to anyone who tries to be fashionable in ireland i wore a red beret once in waterford and someone called me super mario Andrew Beatty V @AndrewBeatty Replying to @janky_jane I once ordered a taxi in Belfast for a night out. The driver pulls up to my house and just says "yer not going out like that. Go back in and change, I'll turn off the metre." | swear I was wearing normal jeans and a normal jacket.
Matthew @MrWeir Replying to @janky jane I once wore a silver jacket to college, turned up late for class, said 'sorry I'm late', lecturer said, 'that's ok' then waited til I was halfway across the front of the full class before following up with 'trouble with the spaceship again was it?'. Replying to @janky _jane My sister was in France sporting a new trench coat, thought was so stylish, but went into an Irish bar and got called Inspector Gadget by the first guy that saw her 15:53 • 8/16/21 • Twitter Web App
was wearing my super-fashionable short trench coat. My friend took one look at me wearing the jacket and said, "Where are we off to now. Columbo?" Eoin O Neill @eoinjoneill Replying to @janky_jane Was wearing a vintage nike jacket in a very long que for drinks at a boxing match when a Belfast lad goes "furk me this is taking forever, your man has been here since the 80's"
Loic Wright @dufflest Replying to @janky jane I wore a suit with a matching tie and pocket square to my first day of work at an advertising company (I thought I was going to be in Mad Men I guess) and the staff sent around and signed a communion card for me with a fiver in it. Eóin O Coileáin @L20_MTN Replying to @janky_jane I wore a white, wool turtle-neck jumper to the match once and a fella in the pub said 'Where have you parked the U-boat?'.
nobody does more brutal fashion reviews than the irish
"I think responses [that ask only for the Administration to 'explain itself'] are pathetic. This isn’t a mystery that needs to be solved. This is not the case of the missing casus belli."
The floor plan for the planned ICE concentration camp in Social Circle, Georgia:
There's three votes for anything on the supreme court. If trump said "I'm the god-king of arrakis" he'd get three votes and a lengthy opinion about the long history and tradition of english common law with regards to the spice melange
Just a reminder that the UC system was not a party in this litigation. Faculty, staff and the @aaup.org fought on their own. UCLA, and the entire UC system, should be ashamed of themselves, and their leaders should be reminded of their submissives every day.
There is no reforming this. There is only abolition, and then trials.
Well holy fucking shit. Ring cancelled their partnership with Flock. Keep pressure on them to stop volunteering their feeds to state, local, and federal agencies, though, because that part's still going.
This is the key point - it's not about Moderna's flu vaccine, it's about sending a signal to the rest of the industry that vaccine development isn't viable in the US. It's all part of the larger anti-vaccine agenda.
Congratulations! Happy to see you receive such well deserved recognition.
It is absolutely outrageous that Moderna’s flu vaccine was met with a “refusal-to-file” even after their approved their protocol with FDA and carried out the trial as agreed. This vaccine works better in older adults than the current flu vaccines.

Big ol’ binder of notes with laptop in front for scale
Big ol’ binder of notes with laptop in front for scale
Here is said phonebook of notes with laptop for scale.
Sigh
There are so many gullible reporters (aka stenographers) who have no expertise in the longstanding antics of the anti-vaccine lobby
Such reporters haven’t learned about Wakefield & the kooky unsubstantiated trope that vaccine *combinations* cause autism
Such reporters need a different beat
6/ The Post has lost over 375,000 subscribers in just over a year. If 10% of those readers subscribed to The 51st instead, we could hire 10 reporters and five editors, dramatically scaling our coverage of the city at this critical time. 51st.news/signup
again we do not really do a good job of explaining how wealthy people like Jeff Bezos are
his net worth is $253.2 billion.
so he could take one million dollars, and just light it on fire
and then do it again tomorrow
and again the day after that
and then do it every day for 693 years and 8 months
Don't agree with Cato Inst on much. But:
Very glad they have quantified what has been obvious for years.
This woman has shown more courage than the nominal leaders of the Democratic Party.

Jesus. No matter bad I think ICE and CBP are, reality keeps showing me they‘re worse. Truly evil stuff.
