I was working on a dramatic movie where the main character gets knocked out unexpectedly. It was meant to be shocking, but the test audience laughed. Adding audio of a grunt of effort from the guy hitting him beforehand was enough to slow the sequence down so it wasn’t processed as comedy.
WRITERS! PARTICULARLY FUNNY WRITERS, TAKE HEED! This book is excellent and I press it into the hands of anyone I meet. The fact that it was ever unavailable is symptomatic of a dark and broken world
