New from me: Alberta RCMP carried out a search warrant at the Canadian wing of international construction equipment manufacturer XCMG in Edmonton Tuesday as part of a fraud investigation. #yeg youtu.be/4cbTHMrLuqg?...
And then I had to fight the city for this information when I was the city hall reporter for the Edmonton Journal & Sun.
The city, without warning or explanation, stopped updating it the summer of 2023.
It was because of my questions they resumed. #yeg edmontonjournal.com/news/edmonto...
Why do I care about this database? Because the Edmonton Journal had to fight the City of Edmonton for public access to this information — twice.
First, most importantly, my predecessor Elise Stolte through freedom of information requests in 2017 #yeg edmontonjournal.com/news/local-n...
I found this story in this database of memos city council gets.
If you’re an Edmonton journalist and haven’t heard of this database please bookmark it. Sometimes there are important things in here. It’s updated monthly. #yeg #yegcc data.edmonton.ca/City-Adminis...
The lease ended March 31 but I heard at least some people may have been moved out a couple weeks ago
New from me: An emergency shelter with close to 100 spaces for women and gender diverse people has closed after the City of Edmonton declined to renew Elizabeth Fry Society's lease. #yeg #yegcc #ableg edmonton.citynews.ca/video/2026/0...
The City of Edmonton is planning to sell, demolish, or repair and replace publicly-owned buildings because of a $3-billion gap in funding to renew aging city properties. #yeg #Edmonton

The City of Edmonton will spend more than it earns investing in the Quarters east of Downtown. The Quarters CRL was meant to spur private investment and boost property taxes collected, but instead will add $64 million debt

More than two dozen groups representing Muslims in Edmonton signed an open letter about their disappointment in Edmonton Police Service Chief Warren Driechel's February trip to Israel, demanding answers to their questions or his resignation edmonton.citynews.ca/video/2026/0...
Axon is a major sponsor of Major Cities Chiefs Association (MCCA), which paid for Dreichel's trip. It's a capstone sponsor, which is $150,000 a year. Edmonton police are testing Axon's facial recognition technology. www.edmontonpolice.ca/News/MediaRe...
Update: Local groups, and a criminologist, react to Edmonton police Chief Warren Driechel’s trip to Israel. The chief says his trip informs him on how global issues play out in Edmonton, including protests. #yeg #Edmonton

A year since Edmonton city council approved a new rulebook for public behaviour, are Edmontonians feeling safer Downtown and on public transit? youtu.be/gmqsLiS36uk?...
Ridership on Edmonton Public Transit is declining after years of growth, new data shows. Construction, increasing fares, and swapping from buses to LRT are factors. For CityNews Edmonton. #yeg #yegcc #Edmonton youtu.be/lmSGkeSOFNY?...
I am writing to advise that Minister Nicolaides, his staff, and the Education and Childcare Department will not be accepting questions, interview requests, or requests for comment from CityNews Calgary or any affiliated outlets or reporters, nor will they be sent invitations to embargoed technical briefings until a formal apology is issued to Minister Nicolaides for the politicized reporting of his hike of Mount Kilimanjaro, undertaken in memory of his late sister. As stated in my earlier response to CityNews, politicizing a deeply personal act of remembrance was profoundly disrespectful. Despite the purpose of the trip being clearly explained, your reporter showed a clear disregard for context, sensitivity, and professional responsibility in pursuing this line of questioning. The attempt to manufacture a narrative about provincial flags and separatism is not only baseless but also demonstrates a reckless disregard for the truth. If there were a genuine interest in the Minister's stance on the unity of Canada, a direct question would have been the appropriate and professional course of action. Your reporter was offered that opportunity but instead chose to prioritize sensationalism over facts. That was a deliberate editorial choice. This type of reporting is beneath the standards Albertans expect. If CityNews wishes to restore communication with the Ministry of Education and Childcare, the following conditions must be met: 1) The story is removed from publication. 2) A formal apology is issued by both the reporter and the editor of CityNews Calgary. Until this conduct is fully acknowledged and addressed, CityNews has demonstrated that it cannot be trusted to engage with this office in a manner that is ethical, responsible, or respectful. Sincerely, Garrett Koehler Senior Press Secretary Ministry of Education and Childcare
Alberta's Ministry of Education says it is blacklisting CityNews unless it agrees to the UCP government's demand to unpublish a news article and publicly apologize to them
