Also at some point we seem to have decided politicians have no persuasive powers and no ability to bring any voters with us. Instead we must morph ourselves to mirror our voters.

This will not make one tiny iota of difference in the voting calculations of those voters. It is going to piss off Liberal Democrats and make us look stupid though.
