i'm so tired of this "middle of the country is a proxy for conservatism."
It's fucking NOT. Minnesota has the highest per capita population of trans people. We're a very blue state.
Chicago fucking exists.
Even South Dakota is more purple than people think.

Time for the JSON creator to do the funniest thing ever www.json.org/license.html
We've got thousands of doors left to knock and thousands of people to call to remind folks that this is your chance to decide history and get out and vote! You can join us at the campaign office in Lowell, or reach out if you want to meet in the other towns! #mapoli

YES OMG.
I hope The Pitt starts a trend back toward cheaper, focus-on-the-characters, more-episodes-per-season. Its success hopefully sends a message.
If you want to follow this analogy to where it's actually going, if you do not pick a car, one gets picked *for you* by *someone else*, which then not only replaces whatever conveyance you took to the dealership, but that of your family and neighbors as well.
Dang it I already wanted to read it but yes yes it does.
Even that won't work, naively: but working to build infrastructures for alternatives allows it to.
The queer failure mode is just as bad as the straight one, but it looks different because of the pressures to perform the gender roles are different.
Sure, it can work, and does frequently, but all the most durable relationships I know are forged friendships, and _actually treat each other as equal people_, and even when they're men and women, have an air of equality to them, not strong 'man' and 'woman' gender roles.
I roughly agree with this, and find the other people quote-tweeting kinda revealing (and wow are they straight). Lots of relationships that are ongoing kinda suck! I think a lot of y'all are caught in some local maxima that aren't very good.
The Publishers Marketplace announcement of my book, which reads “Rahawa Haile's IN OPEN COUNTRY, a personal and political hybrid memoir of the author's transformative Appalachian Trail thru-hike, exploring the history of freedom of movement in the United States, and reckoning with America's foundational myth of conquered wilderness, the violence of national borders, and the legacy of diasporic placelessness, moving to Bryn Clark at Little, Brown, at auction, by Julia Kardon at HG Literary (NA).”
Some great news. My hybrid memoir IN OPEN COUNTRY will now be published by Little, Brown. It’s about freedom of movement and stillness in the US, and the ways capitalism & settler colonialism have shaped (and continue to shape) the answer to who has either across time. I also do a lot of walking.
2026 and Web Components still have a fouc?
Screenshot of an X.com post by The Associated Press (@AP) stating that dozens of immigrant families protested for better treatment behind fences at a Texas detention facility, where a 5-year-old Ecuadorian boy and his father were sent after being detained in Minnesota. Below is a video thumbnail showing a crowd gathered outdoors along a fenced walkway; many people wear bright blue or red outerwear, and some hold signs.
After being held in two of them as a boy, I fought for decades urging America to never again build concentration camps and put human beings in them. It breaks my heart to watch this happen twice now in my own lifetime.

This is one of my favorite things I’ve written—I got to push myself way outside my usual beats to do something meaningful that was fun to work on.
The encouragement and support I get to do things like that is one reason I love being part of @theflytrapmedia.com! 🥰
If you dislike ICE and also enjoy singing and swearing then oh boy I've got the gig for you. I wrote a ditty but it needs an especially foul-mouthed choir. The deadline is Thursday at midnight.

Let me give you a thought experiment:
Imagine not just a ban on qualified immunity for authority, but a reversal; a new legal framework, under which authority bears greater responsibility than civilians in matters involving force—as it should.

There are lots of reasons to compare what is happening now to Nazi Germany and there are also lots of reasons to compare what is happening now to the post-1850 Fugitive Slave Act U.S. and it's *weird* how people respond with interest to the former but total confusion to the latter
I get your point here, but also I regret to inform you
3 day ban, account reinstated.
A thoughtful, progressive, high-engagement participant like Sky Marchini deleting their account due to leftist harassment is such a tremendous L for this site.
Let's be very clear, Bluesky is dead - commercially nonviable - if it can't moderate courageously enough to protect people like Sky.
But single issue voters always fuck shit up. There’s a better option. Vote for it or else. Use leverage the rest of the time to keep them in check. It’s ongoing engagement not a one and done vote. Positions change if you do the work.
Bullshit. I’ve literally organized actions against a local Dem to get him to change position. And it’s only organized action that works. Build a bloc of voters.
In what states, speaking how loudly about it, saying what? With what else in reaction to that change?
No, that's not how statistics work. You can't look back and blame people because the decision already got made with the information that was present then.
This is like saying you could have won stock trades if you had later information. Sure. If you had a time machine it sure would be nice.
And if that were true, we'd have precise predictions of results.
We do not.
If you got one I suggest cleaning up in the betting markets.
Citation needed.
The outcomes of prior elections affect future ones. Reporting and positioning create feedback. It's an _extremely_ dynamic system.
This is what I mean by the bozo bit. Analyzing politics as a static system and not a dynamic one is stupid af. And post facto evaluation of probabilities as definite. Like fails stats 101.
No the parsing was easy but what the hell you mean isn’t. What is mathematical responsibility?
wut.
