While an apartment dweller I purchased some shelf-stable dry stuff in bulk, incl. lentils, kidney beans & chick peas. Also quality, long grain rice. I bought it in 20kg bags (companies will deliver) & kept it in a strong 20kg industrial pail with tight-snapping lid. Rice is 50-60% cheaper this way.
