Saw a sign that said P Garage (parking garage) and I read it as “probability of a garage”. I think I need help

I’m glad I went to BYU, but I had some questions about my faith during my time there, and worrying about the honor code office while I resolved those questions didn’t help.

If a friend was a faculty member facing similar questions, I would advise them to find a new position for their own sake

I feel like people don’t care all that much.

In the presidential primary, I switched party registration to Republican so I could vote against Trump.

If 10% of registered democrats had done the same he would not have won

Also, a good amount of our social interaction permanently went away. Churches never refilled after COVID, people stopped interacting with as many people because of WFH. A lot easier to insulate yourself from people you don’t agree with

ADVENTURER: Dragon! We are here for your gold! Prepare to die!
DRAGON: My gold?
ADVENTURER: Yes! We climbed this great mountain, swam it's flooded caverns and-
DRAGON: Fair enough
ADVENTURER: Wait, what?

I would guess that a good portion of racist accounts are run by people intentionally aiming to destabilize western societies

Thinking about some statisticians in the break room after a morning of calculating T statistics by hand, worried about computers taking over their jobs

Having a good sense of “are there >500 articles on the internet for the thing I want to talk to an llm about” is really valuable

I think it’s probably just a reflection of the fact that:
1. Priorities in education are changing
2. We should be thoughtful and make sure that we are not hurting ourselves by not caring about things we used to care about

Standing at the kolache shop, thinking about how they wouldn’t be running out of all of their flavors if they just used a halfway decent forecasting algorithm

Jokes aside, I think this could be a really cool product that could enhance learning!

Ah, I was assuming that the 10% of unsorted elements would be randomly dispersed throughout the array. I chose a sub-array of length 4 because the desired success probability 99.99% =1-0.1^4

Is this just something like:

is_sorted = True
start = randint % (len(vec) -5)
for i in range(start, start +5):
if vec[i] > vec[i -1]:
is sorted =False
break

👎 but can’t put my finger on why. Maybe “as good of” seems wrong?

Overthinking of the day is trying to decide if “letting rolls double in size” means a doubling in radius or in volume

A big insurer backed off its plan to pay less for anesthesia. That’s bad. What the fight between Anthem and anesthesiologists was really about.

Here’s an article for anyone who might be curious.

The proposed policy required extra justification for billing for long surgeries to reduce fraud or exaggeration, similar to Medicare/medicaid.

There are definitely tractable ways we can improve our healthcare system, but we won’t find those on social media.

Incentives are too high to get a good zinger in against someone, and no incentive for finding a good solution.

There’s a lot of work between a research study and real-world implementation. Different hospitals use different machines, and it can be tricky to design systems that are actually useful/relevant to doctors

Please don’t condone violence or intimidation, this will not improve things in the long run

Happy to have a good faith conversation on why Eichmann’s “doing his job” is much worse than a CEO doing his job, if you’re interested.

We cannot make our economic/healthcare system better through violence and intimidation. That will only destroy it.

I definitely agree that violence should not be used on peaceful protesters

Voting will solve the issue if it’s something that a majority of Americans want! We can decide to vote out people who entertain lobbyists.

Using violence and intimidation to achieve political goals will destroy our country. We cannot endorse or approve of violence.

We the people have the power to vote out people who don’t serve our interests!

Using violence and intimidation to achieve political goals will destroy our country. We shouldn’t even joke about it online because people will read it and take real actions to kill real people.

I agree that lobbying is a problem, but political power still resides with the people.

We have to continue to believe that (rather than resorting to violence and intimidation) if we want to improve the country

Agree that we should reduce the power of lobbyists.

Agree that the current system of deciding who gets care with filing and accepting/rejecting claims should be fixed

I agree that our political system needs to be reformed to reduce the power of special interest groups. But we have the power to make those changes democratically, and without violence or intimidation
