The racism is pretty clear here, of course, in the depiction of America as an exclusively White country. The conflation of racism, militarism and religion, and the confounding of all of them with Trump's ego makes this one of the most revealing of all Trump's memes!

An open threat of genocide! This is the mentality of Trump and Netanyahu. Amazing that we have come to this place where such people are in power!

The is the federal government telling news stations to provide favorable coverage of the war or their licenses will be pulled.

A truly extraordinary moment.

We aren't on the verge of a totalitarian takeover. WE ARE IN THE MIDDLE OF IT.

Act like it.

The world heard JD Vance being booed at the Olympics. Except for viewers in the US | Bryan Armen Graham The real risk for American broadcasters is not that dissent will be visible. It is that audiences will start assuming anything they do not show is being hidden

Why did the American audience apparently hear different audio of JD Vance's appearance at the Olympics than the audio heard by the rest of the world?

NBC denies muting. But it's part of overall disturbing developments in the US corporate media world.

I used to teach an Introduction to Communication class at UCSD that did a similar thing, discussing the forms of human communication in chronological order, and then talking about the context of power relations, culture, etc, that was involved when each was developed.

The New York Times long story on Dick Cheney refers to the claims about weapons of mass destruction that justified the Iraq war as an "intelligence failure." I would characterize them as a propaganda success, and it was one in which the Times played a central role.

Looks as if Trump is saying no Democrat will be allowed to win another national election—and he will use the FBI, the DOJ, and the CIA to make sure of that. This is a full-scale attack on American democracy, and every Republican, CEO, and conservative mouthpiece who doesn't object is complicit.

Meanwhile The New York Times buried the story on p. 22.

Rubio and Trump Officials Clash With Elon Musk in an Explosive Meeting Simmering anger at the billionaire’s unchecked power spilled out in a remarkable Cabinet Room meeting. The president quickly moved to rein in Mr. Musk.

Inside the Explosive Meeting Where Trump Officials Clashed With Elon Musk www.nytimes.com/2025/03/07/u...
Nice to get the inside story. But it's awfully gullible reporting to swallow whole the claim that "what Musk set out to do" was "reducing waste, fraud and abuse in government."

About the fires in Los Angeles, the New York Times reported: "Right-wing outlets blamed much of the devastation on Democrats. They assailed the political leadership of California, which is heavily Democratic. They also blamed the destruction on diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives undertaken in Los Angeles.

Liberal outlets criticized President-elect Donald J. Trump’s reaction to the fires, which they described as insensitive. Some attributed the intensity of the fires to climate change.

President Biden Pardons His Son Hunter: Live Updates The “full and unconditional pardon” comes weeks before President Biden leaves office. The president’s spokeswoman had denied for months that he had any intention of granting clemency for his son.

Very bad judgement on Biden's part once again--this just legitimates Trump's view of justice. www.nytimes.com/live/2024/12...
