I'm so grateful. The pro wrestling gods really smiled on us today. Borders are fake but pro wrestling is a real universal language. I love being alive, I love my husband. I love Puroresu.
This was truly random . We managed to walk into the biggest wrestling bar in Yokohama and make many friends. We mentioned it was our honeymoon and the owner insisted we not pay.

We watched through all over the history of Hiroshi Tanahashi video and joked about stuff. His buddies pointed out the autographs on the ceiling and walls, and we shared photos on our phones. They spoke just bout as much English as I did japanese, but we managed to chat all night.
We gave us a couple of hi balls and Greg and I quietly resigned ourselves to a couple of drinks and some konbini dinner later on, but the owner got up partway through and asked us if we were hungry. He made us a MOUNTAIN of kushikatsu, cooked burdock root, and fried rice. We fucking feasted.
He turned off the action movie and immediately pulled up a summary video of Wrestle Kingdom. He and his buddies at the bar were SHOCKED every time we knew an NJPW wrestler. We were popping the uncs ALL NIGHT! Each time we pointed out an old NJ guy they'd look at each other and go "they know that?"
I turned back to the entrance saw the wall was wall plastered with photos of NJPW wrestlers. I pointed at one and went "oooh, Naito!" And the owner immediately stopped us from leaving and implored us to sit down. He told us we should drink and let us order a couple of hi-balls.
We got to the door of a tiny little izakaya and it said "cash only" on the door. We both hesitated, but decided "fuck it" and opened the door. There were maybe 5 people inside watching some Dwayne Johnson slop. The owner began explaining they close in an hour and started to show us out until.....
Greg and I just arrived in Yokohama this evening (after Chocopro). It was just after 10 pm and this town was DEAD. Like, "try to find food after 8 pm in a business park" type dead. We even got turned away from an Izakaya, but Greg had a spot he wanted to try that was open til midnight.
Just had the most magical intercultural pro wrestling moment of our lives
The best part of ojiisan number 1 was that he was puttering around trying to help other foreigners with bus directions and he fully stopped what he was doing to roast Greg. It was awesome.
Talkative ojiisans have been my favorite part of this trip. This old guy in Odawara pointed at Greg's Kamen Rider shirt and called him an otaku and another one on the Ginza line bragged about his daughter's four children. Hell yeah.

Greg and I came so close to picking up this ceramic figurine we spotted in an America-mura resale shop until we learned it was *not* Stan Hansen, but Hulk Hogan.
Japan so far has a 100% hit rate of bathroom toilet paper coming from the front of the roll and not from behind. Keep it up.
