I don't think trans people should be imprisoned for 5 years because they have to pee

sorry I'm like this y'all but you have FIVE MORE DAYS, is all, and because I have totally forgotten to mention it, let me just add that one lucky nominator will win a whole pile of books, which is to say the entire 2025 shortlist! could be yours! go forth and nominate!

I don't really think your opinion on Harry Potter has any intrinsic moral valence, but c'mon, you should really not be giving Rowling money or attention if you care at all about trans rights, y'know? She's not an author with bad opinions, she's a full-time political activist who used to write books.

There's still time to bid in the Lit for Queer Liberation auction! I've donated a signed book bundle of my three YA fantasies, plus a manuscript page that only three people in the entire world have seen. (You could be the fourth!)

3D Printed Whistles | Linktree We ship community protection whistles for free. Need some? Click the email link below & tell us how many you need (between 100 - 3000) & where to send them.

Our volunteer collective of whistle printers is up past 1.2 million whistles shipped. It's happening very quietly, because we've basically settled into a groove, but we are still here for all your whistle needs.

It's so good! Technically a companion to The Goblin Emperor (also excellent) but the Witness series is its own thing and stands on its own.

Caveat that I've read/enjoyed Bennett but not these in particular - I would check out The Witness for the Dead series (Addison) and The Mimicking of Known Successes series (Older).

(Maybe Diamine Shimmering Seas but there are so many good ones!) Pilot and Diamine inks are generally well-behaved and reliable.

The nib widths vary a lot between brands. I'd say if it's a medium Pilot (that's a thinner line than say TWSBI or a German pen), I'd do your preferred Pilot Iroshizuku color (the best!). But if you have a wider nib (TWSBI or similar) do a fun Diamine shimmer.

I continue to be fascinated by the phenomenon whereby an expert engages with any of the LLMs on their field of expertise and is instantly horrified by the wrong answers, and then goes on to use it for things they are not experts in as though it won’t be just as bad for those.

This is one of my biggest problems with the Hugos, and it has such an easy fix (nominate actual Young Adult for the Young Adult award 🙄). Alex is correct and this is an excellent guide for doing just that.

The media should be PRAISING these athletes who know and understand the importance of public health. These articles should be about how they are setting an example for EVERYONE. And how we should all take their lead.

Instead their positioning is: “look at these fucking weirdos”

This isn't a list of jobs that A.I. can easily replace.

It's a list of jobs that techno fascists don't think are worthwhile or meaningful and that they want to eliminate.

They don't want humans to try to make sense of the world, they want us to believe whatever we're told.

No - needs permission from the resident of the house. Unless you signed a warrant against yourself, I guess. I don't know why this is a difficult question.

Oh this is a Ryan Murphy shindig, that makes more sense now.

Just started Doctor Odyssey - 23 minutes in and my impression is WTF is this show? *bewildered but not un-entertained?*

Chatbots — LLMs — do not know facts and are not designed to be able to accurately answer factual questions. They are designed to find and mimic patterns of words, probabilistically. When they’re “right” it’s because correct things are often written down, so those patterns are frequent. That’s all.

My favorite read of 2025 so far is WOODWORKING by Emily St. James (non-smutty adult contemporary).

I started a queer movie brunch club this year and chose Saving Face as one of the first features. I don't even remember the first time I saw it, but I sure fell in love when I did. Don't miss Wu's more recent directorial outing (The Half Of It) either!

I hope to see much more from her.
