But I don’t know if there’s a decided end point that people are aiming toward.
I don’t think it’s accurate to say that these actions hint at de jure recognition of Taiwanese independence.
There’s clearly been a change in views towards Taiwan and China and a greater willingness to be seen publicly talking to Taiwan. That precedes Takaichi.

Sure. And the reaction (or lack or one really) in Japan to Takaichi’s comment shows indicate how that debate might go now.

I can’t imagine it would have been good for the gradually improving China ties to have had a clearer debate in 2015.
