Great screening of Orlando tonight, w/ Andrea Lawlor who introduced the film & afterward talked about their writing & love of the film. Excited to grow this program, a fun learning experience talking w/ authors about fiction & narrative films after so many conversations w/ documentary directors
Florist live at Stone Church in Brattleboro, VT. No other band moves me as much as they do. Played four new songs off the upcoming album and they sounded great.
Truly loved this book. Beautiful distillation of the 90s in a way I see rarely done in an ever growing body of work on the era. Unraveling (and reraveling) the web of identity, fandom and early internet community while trying to understand what eyes we had and how we used them. Highly recommended!
That’s been my observation too, obviously Mullins is home but it is interesting they seem to spend the majority of the time at Champs
I saw that, really firing on all cylinders
Yeah, I was looking for something else in an old collegian and came across this post- the only time she appeared in the collegian during her time here- and did a little digging. I am always interested in the programs connections to the WNBA too
Do you know how much practice happens at Mullins vs champs?
Great screening of Holding Back The Tide tonight at Amherst Cinema. A film w/ beauty, depth & sensuality that stares into deep uncertainty, climate change & exploitation & finds possibility, guidance and solidarity in and from the sea, the oyster and our capacity (and need) to change. Check it out!
From a 1995 Collegian, Umass Women's Basketball Asst Coach (93-96) Chantel Tremitiere addresses students. After her time coaching at Umass she played overseas before being drafted into the WNBA ending her career with the Indiana Fever in 2000. She's now a professor at Auburn
I've been watching a number of thoughts in my mind for a while and am still unsure of the ultimate boundaries (maybe none will emerge) but I've started a newsletter if you're interested in hearing some encounters I've had with music, books, art etc. open.substack.com/pub/gwmyers/...
Sue Peters (off the basketball court) leading Umass Softball to a 6-0 win pitching a no hitter and hitting a three run homer in April 1980, she also hit a grand slam in the following game of a double header. One of One.
Inaugurating my bluesky account with some vintage Umass Women's Basketball pics, Ginny Peebles who wore the now legendary #34 from 1974-1978, fights off St Johns defenders.
