DAY 22: a song with non-western harmonic ideas.
I’m going to “Jump in the Pool” with Friendly Fires. The keyboards leading into and through the song remind me of throat singing. They contrast AND work together with the percussive West Africanesque synths.

Very cool (pun intended).
That would be a great band name.
Beautiful!
A flock of willets swarms above the shallow waters of a salt panne.
A close up of approximately 15,willets flying over a shallow salt panne.
Today’s #BirdOfTheDay theme is #Petals&Perches, any bird with flowers in frame. The alt theme is #WhatTheFlock, any capture of three or more of the same bird.
Here’s a few shots of a flock of willets; abstractly painted across the salt panne sky. #Birds 🪶

DAY 21: a song with syncopation.
Though it’s more obvious on the Substance version, the album version of “Bizarre Love Triangle” from New Order’s Brotherhood album is copacetically syncopated.
I love both versions.
I have a cute micro piece out in this newest zine from @coinoppress.bsky.social - if you have a few dollars, go support these wonderfully creative zines! #amwriting #writingcommunity #flashfiction
I grew up in the desert, but now the sea is a short walk from home. The novelty of seeing gulls fly high with shells in their beaks and then open them by dropping them onto the rocks below hasn’t worn off yet.
Nice pick.
Perhaps the definitive fade out!
This kind of music isn’t the first I reach for, but it’s hard not to like Dio. He led such a fascinating life. I highly recommend the documentary Dio: Dreamers Never Die.

DAY 20: a song with a fade-out ending.
Curtain opens, spot lights “New Mistake” by Jellyfish. This band never caught the attention they deserved. Kinda like Squeeze in that regard… I’m glad to share them here. Maybe they’ll discover some appreciative ears.
This has me rethinking the ending of The Sopranos now.
This is perhaps one of the most perfect covers ever. Definitely chilling!
A blue jay sifts through some seed left on top of a large rock and comes away with a bit of peanut.
Today's #BirdOfTheDay theme is #ComeEatWithMe, with #Turdidae as the alt theme. Here’s another picture of the same picky blue jay I posted yesterday settling on a snack. #Birds 🪶
Those are mighty cute!
Was this shot taken in the Chernobyl Containment Zone, per chance?
A blue jay inspects bird seed left on a rock.
The #BirdOfTheDay theme is #ABCD, and alt is #CaptionThis (a funny caption with any bird capture).
Here’s a blue jay pulling his best Gordon Ramsay.
Caption for the alt theme (courtesy of Ramsay): “I’d rather eat poodle shit than put that in my beak.” #Birds 🪶
I totally agree… there’s some amazing songs on that record. People who expected an album full of variations on “If You Leave” didn’t get it, but I LOVED it.
“…I've seen the Promised Land! I may not get there with you, but I want you to know tonight, that we, as a people, will get to the Promised Land!”

Day 19: A song that gives you chills.
“Southern” by Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark helped introduce a shy white boy to the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. It sampled his “I’ve Been to the Mountaintop” speech given the night before he died.
Chills
Wood ducks are awesome. Great shot!
Beautiful!
Punk Rock.
I’m dying to know what he’s looking at.
She’s got the moves.
Wonderful shot!
This picture shows two blurry ducks walking across the street in a crosswalk. It’s a gray day and you can see the silver hood of a car in the foreground as the photo was snapped by a driver.
A brilliant yellow American goldfinch perches on a branch on a gray day. Its black wings and head contrast against the rest of its lemon yellow body.
Today's #BirdOfTheDay theme is #DucksOutOfWater, any Duck that is out of the water but not flying. The alt theme is #Finches.
Here’s a crappy photo shot from my driver’s seat of two ducks using a crosswalk!
I’m pairing that with a better—yet less impressive—photo of an American goldfinch.

Day 18: A song that feels relaxed.
“Aries” by Gorillaz feat. Peter Hook and Georgia nicely transitions from bouncy to relaxed.
Hook’s bass melodies float on a steady metronomic beat, and the combination resonates with me like a tuning fork.
Thanks Alan!
