I agree with you - the point I'm making is the UK is a very expensive unproductive country now, and many groups, especially pensioners with no private pension or little capital (who as you said worked & paid taxes in the understanding they would have a liveable state pension) are now affected .

I agree, but I think the major issue is it has always been, for want of a better term, a Ponzi scheme as the original recipients' pensions were paid for by those then in employment, and general productivity in the UK is now very low with increasing g life expectancy no one legislated for.
