Right now, decisions are being made that will directly impact thousands of aviation workers and our families: us. Conversations in Washington DC are ongoing, and support is not guaranteed. So we need to make something very clear: We are not numbers on a balance sheet.
It was as quick an organizing drive as anyone at @cwaunion.bsky.social could remember and, according to workers, an indication of just how miserable a new digital ordering system has made the Alamo Drafthouse experience for both employees and moviegoers. #BetterInAUnion
Standing up for workers, local news, and our democracy.
We’ve been Voluntarily Recognized! We have a UNION✊🏽!

We're escalating pressure on LanguageLine Solutions and its parent company, Teleperformance.

"I encourage the CEO of LanguageLine Solutions to hear his workers’ demands and create better conditions for all interpreters.” - Council Member Alexa Avilés (@cmalexaaviles.bsky.social)
"As a New Yorker who grew up relying on interpretation and translation services, I would not be here today without the essential services provided by the interpreters at LanguageLine Solutions," said Council Member Julie Won (@cmjuliewon.bsky.social)

“As interpreters, we are the voice of New Yorkers in their most important moments—in hospitals and courtrooms, accessing city services, financial services, or even calling 911,” said Yuliia Moshkova, Russian interpreter at LanguageLine Solutions.
LanguageLine Solutions serves more than 30,000 clients worldwide, including agencies within the New York City government, which total over $19.3 million in active contracts.
They demanded that management meet to address concerns impacting their ability to provide quality interpretation services to New Yorkers.
Leaders of powerful council committees overseeing city contracts, workforce development, and labor stood with LLS interpreters at a press conference on the steps of City Hall to announce the formation of a new committee on health & safety.

As interpreters continue to fight for a union at LanguageLine Solutions, New York City Council members and New York City Comptroller Mark Levine are calling on parent company Teleperformance to respect their workers’ right to form a union and improve working conditions!
Did you know that union membership is a pathway to healthcare? Our Freelancing Committee has been taking steps to make it a reality and it's one of their major goals. Until the US gets universal healthcare, you deserve coverage. Studios shouldn't be able to wiggle out of a system THEY helped create.

Yesterday, CWA, the North Carolina AFL-CIO, and SEIU 32BJ were joined by local coalitions and organizations for a rally to demand a fair union contract at Wells Fargo, one of the only organizing efforts at a major bank in the United States in over 50 years!
If you’re reading this, then you almost certainly paid more in taxes this year than many billionaires and giant corporations did.
It’s time for the richest among us to pay their fair share.

A bold graphic reading “For Immediate Release: Post-Gazette journalists call on new owner to follow federal law, restore trust with Pittsburgh community.” Below, smaller text explains that the Venetoulis Institute, owner of the Baltimore Banner, has acquired the Pulitzer Prize–winning Pittsburgh Post-Gazette staff but plans job cuts. The lower half shows a man speaking into a microphone in front of a seated audience at a town hall.
We are excited for this historic institution to survive!
A lot is still unsettled and we will continue to support our members who are fighting to be paid back from the Block’s illegal behavior.
That liability does not go away with the sale of the paper.

Dozens of seated town hall attendees sit at 1Hood's Blaxk Box Theater Wednesday night. Most are looking off to the left of the frame.
We were stoked to see nearly 100 people at our town hall last night, share our vision for a multi-stakeholder daily news co-op, and hear what you all need in one for the future of journalism in Pittsburgh. The desire for local, representative news we all own was clear!
