Clinical significance of toxin EIA positivity in patients with suspected Clostridioides difficile infection: systematic review and meta-analysis | Journal of Clinical Microbiology Clostridioides difficile infection (CDI) is a common cause of healthcare-associated infections and the leading cause of antibiotic-associated diarrhea. However, the laboratory diagnosis of CDI, primar...

🆕✨Systematic review and meta-analysis
Toxin results cannot rule in or rule out CDI, and the decision whether to treat symptomatic NAAT+/EIA− patients for CDI should be based on clinical presentation and not on the toxin result #idsky #EMIMCC #medsky

For patients and doctors, insurance prior authorization can be a dangerous game | Opinion Doctors trying to get patients necessary drugs and procedures stymied by health insurance prior authorization. It's not a game. It's life and death.

The timing of this story is heated, with health insurance industry in the news, but I was honored to collaborate with @fumikochino.bsky.social and grateful to my patient and his family for the chance to draw/write about the pain of #priorauth for @usatoday.com .

One of my approaches when we have residents/students/pharmD residents is to mention a key article/study and then have one of the trainees (not the busy ID fellow!) review and give a brief summary (3-5 mins) the next day.

Everybody on team learns and find it more engaging.

Virtual Home Care for Patients With Acute Illness This cohort study compares outcomes of patients receiving care in an outpatient, virtual, home-based acute care model with outcomes of patients receiving standard hospital care.

For my inaugural post, Im proud to announce the publication of our Safer@Home care model. This is going to change how medicine is practiced. No need to admit pts "for IV antibiotics" anymore. Or just for IV diuresis in CHF. Or just for EtOH withdrawal. Etc.

In this single-center retrospective study, @mularoni.bsky.social tested donors (3%) and recipients (8%) for HHV-8. Most of the donor-derived HHV-8-related disease manifested as KICS!! 🤯 On the other hand, most reactivations presented as KS. #TxID #IDSky pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/39551265/
