There are some days when I wonder “could the $1800 my MacBook cost have gone to something more better?”

There are also days, like today, when I’m reminded that the answer is a firm no.

The ways that we measure the world should reflect the way the world actually works. If you want to wake up when it’s still dark out, you can choose to wake up an hour earlier. You don’t have to change the middle of the day to do that.

In standard time, 12:00, the middle of the day, is when the Sun is at the highest point in the sky. It’s when the middle of the day is the actual middle of the day.

Unless it’s a well-made app (Amazon being one of the few examples I can think of), making purchases on a laptop will always have a better user experience. Being able to use an adblocker is a nice plus as well.

No, because:
1. a Texas statewide election is vulnerable to votesplitting, while IL-09 is so strongly blue that votesplitting between 2 Dems mathematically can’t cause a Republican victory, and
2. Talarico is a more progressive candidate than Crockett.

TLDR, this district is so blue that vote splitting isn’t an issue.

This is a deep blue Chicago suburb seat, so there’s no chance of that. Democrats won it by 36 points in 2024, so even if Kat and Biss split that perfectly evenly, one of them would still win. Plus, it’s certainly going to be even bluer with the nationwide leftwards shift that’s happening this cycle.

It would show the Democratic establishment that we won’t tolerate weak candidates like Daniel Piss.

Where’s the humor?

The problem is that it’s not just past grievances. Israel is committing a genocide in Gaza right now. You can’t solve present problems without understanding the present, and you can’t understand the present without understanding the past. It’s not about placing blame.

I gave a timeframe of the most important events to understand, I never said that we should ignore the events that came before those.

What would you propose? Should we ignore history when tackling modern problems? That sounds like a terrible idea to me.

I never made any claims about “when history started”, so please don’t put bad arguments into my mouth. All I said is that, when understanding this conflict, the most important history is the time period when the conflict took place.

1 month ago 2 0 2 0

In the case of this conflict, the most important history is over the last ~150 years, from the beginning of the Zionist movement to today. We have to think about the actions of all countries who have been involved in the conflict during that time.

I don’t particularly care who the “original sin” belongs to (it belongs to Israel, for what it’s worth), because we should be solution minded. It’s just important to keep the history of this conflict in mind, and that history is a continuous string of Israel conquering more and more of Palestine.

Even if other nations supported the stealing and said it was ok, that doesn’t change the fact that the land was stolen.

What is Apple supposed to do to stop this? Do you really want Apple AI-scanning all of your photos to look for illegal content? I know I don’t want that.

Thank you so much! The complexity of the 30 Years’ War and the Holy Roman Empire are why I’m so fascinated by them.

They remember what it was like before cars had emissions rules. The Republicans remember leaded gasoline, and they want it back.

A digitally-drawn map of the Holy Roman Empire in 1618. Various important states and noble houses are shown in different colors, and there is a key on the left. There are two smaller maps on the right, one showing each state's religion, and one showing which side each state took in the 30 Years' War.

The Holy Roman Empire in the year 1618, on the eve of the 30 Years' War.

I've been working on this map for a week or two, and I finally had the time to finish it. I'm very proud of how it turned out!

The concept of an age-dependent minimum wage is especially disgusting. Your labor is worth the same as anyone else’s, no matter your age. Whether it’s for under-20s, under-18s, or anyone else, the minimum wage should meet the cost of living.

You know who else outnumbers police in every city and state? Criminals.

And yet somehow police can keep on arresting them

The fact is you guys are cowards who think small and won't try. Stop being afraid. You know who's a bigger coward? ICE. They will cry like babies when real cops bring the cuffs

Private prisons turn a profit by depriving people of their human rights. It’s time that ALL of them, every person involved in this evil industry, are held accountable.

There needs to be some kind of accountability for law enforcement agents who arrest people without cause. It should be a criminal act to deprive people of their freedom unjustly.

If your statements are based on “actual shit”, ie evidence, please provide it. I’ll back off if you provide evidence for the theories you put forward.

Sending it here because the coward blocked me.

ICE, DHS, and the federal government at large have done plenty of evil things, for which we have tons of evidence and testimony. We do not need to make up evil things that they’ve probably done, just because they’re “likely” true.

Hot take, we should not normalize conspiracism at all on the left, under any circumstances. The facts and evidence are on our side, we don’t need to engage in anti-intellectualism to win. It’s dangerous and counterproductive.

People are now discovering that rights only exist when the government cares about them. The law isn’t some supernatural force, it ceases to exist when it isn’t enforced.
