oh hey, this is a fun way to find out about this :D

program not working? can't figure out why? try tracing it! per heisenberg's observer effect, it might suddenly start working (for a small performance penalty)
(user followed you for this post)
"art accounts" (slur)
(it's just reality speeding up because a complex object is being culled from the render pipeline)
profiling seems to be going faster when I don't look at my computer. does it have performance anxiety?
I would suggest having your ass destroyed by a she/it catboy instead
putting a "Follow" button directly inside reskoots from people you don't follow is a nice touch.
The desktop/web app seems to think I'm a mobile user now :o
I'm not so sure about the straight part
As annoying as the mass-following users are, they're also providing a service of sorts! Rather than "I joined in February" or "I joined in April", it's very easy to just go "I joined at 19k" instead. :3
It also a way of looking at how the site is growing. I joined a little over 2 weeks ago, at ~5k.
There's not one best way of handling them!
Idea: scrollbar switcher, to alternate between different scrollbar functions
The biggest meaningful threat they pose is convincing you that they're a threat!
Literally just ignore them (and be visible in public)
If you're not treating them as if they pose a threat to you, then most people will realise they're just massively unhinged and don't need to be taken seriously. Cognitive dissonance produced by you not acting evilly will help things along nicely
Thanks for the pointers! Using a 3rd-party service for embeds is a decent idea but isn't something I'd probably have considered otherwise. It's a bit unfortunate that indirection is necessary but I'm def. willing to put up with it for now.
@bmann.ca twitter.com link cards seem a bit broken; might be a CORS/CSP issue? Would be really neat to be able to quote Tweets as if they were native posts!
I half-assume you're aware of this already—not really sure where to submit bug reports or track existing ones though. 😅
(this is also relevant for quote-skooting in replies on the web app)
How to properly quote post on bluesky for desktop users:
1. Copy the post url
2. Remove "staging." from the start of the url so it the start looks like "https://bsky.app/"
3. Paste the url into your post or reply
4. Click "Add link card"
5. Remove the url from the post
6. Add text
7. Post!
bsky.app/profile/qchu.bsky.social... is a decent example of why application-provided information streams aren't really useful beyond a certain power level. I've more or less given up on relying on other peoples' software for notifying me of what I want to know, when I want it
bleet: onomatopoeic. bouba. sounds like it's riffing off of "tweet"
skoot: original-sounding. kiki. cutesy vibes.
Can't tell if I like "bleet" or "skoot" more
...that seems like something manageable to do something about, now. I do think it's useful to be able to superficially signal interest/approval/acknowledgement/etc; writing isn't always an optimal form of communication.
Think I'm going to try something different this time. Likes are significantly less distracting to me than they were when I decided on this initially, and despite *still* lacking an appropriately lightweight feed for lightweight information...
