I assume they are either asking if others are the same, or if anyone can help them learn crochet but it needlessly annoys me 😂

What's a petty bug bear that you have to suppress so as not to look like an utter pedant?

One (there's many, I'm a twat) of mine is when people end a statement with a question mark... like you are meant to work out what they are actually asking.

The Butler by Clare Mackintosh 5 Stars from me ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️  OH MY GOD MORE PLEASE! I LOVED this and yes please I want the next installment of this story - I want to follow where Baxter goes next please Clare Mackintosh - he is a sensational character. I always know that a Clare Mackintosh book is a sure thing, one of those you save for when you've got some time to dedicate to it, or need to get yourself out of a book slump and this one did not disappoint.

Death on the Norfolk Express by Ross Greenwood 5 Stars from me ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The latest in the DI Ashley Knight 'Norfolk Murders' series is a sure fire winner. It's got a steam train, it's set in Norfolk, there's murder, there's mystery, a sprinkling of mayhem and it's written by Ross Greenwood - ding ding ding all aboard! I've been looking forward to this one and it did not disappoint, from the opening chapters it was clear that we were about to embark on a thrill ride - albeit one ambling down through the Norfolk coastline.

The Night Stairs by Erin Kelly 4 Stars from me Finding this book was a bit like finding a lost shoe as my mind swiftly drew back to a time when I devoured books like Malory Towers and St Clare's, fascinated by these other worlds inhabited by girls whose lives were so utterly different to my own. The Night Stairs, for me, is the grown up version of these books with an added sprinkle of religion and Erin Kelly has delivered this beautifully by setting the story around a tight core of characters, within the boarding school setting.

I've finally found the grown up version of Malory Towers! The Night Stairs by Erin Kelly #NightStairs #ErinKelly #BookSky

Nothing to See Here by Susan Lewis 3.5 Stars from me I listened to this book on audible and find it really hard to rate as although I absolutely loved parts of it, and enjoyed the whole podcast element, I did find it dragged a little in places and essentially could have benefited from being shorter/tighter. I feel mean saying that as there were sections that had me absolutely gripped but overall I think it just left me wanting a little more - not more length obvs but more ompf.

Nothing to See Here by Susan Lewis - a slightly meandering listen, but worth it all the same #BookSky

Liar Liar by Luca Veste 4 Stars from me Mark Fletcher is a respected detective, with a bit of a hero complex. He literally stops at nothing in his quest to help people and bring criminals to justice. Unfortunately, despite this, his latest attempts to do good have gone horribly wrong and he finds himself firmly in the murky underworld that he has fought so hard to clean up.

Nine Missing Girls by Steena Holmes 4 Stars from me This book contains a series of short stories - each focused on Detective Meri Amber's investigation into a missing girl/girls. She has an admirably dogged determination, which, coupled with her innate gentle kindness, makes her the perfect person to be searching for the girls. Meri is thorough and driven as she goes about her work. She never takes the path of least resistance, and instills deep faith in her abilities.

The Good Listener by Holly Watt 4 Stars from me I was drawn in to this one incredibly quickly and felt huge empathy for Clara. Although, having said that, I also wanted to shake her a lot of the time. Really enjoyed the concept of 'Good Listeners' and that they had the same people ringing in week in week out with the same tales of woe. This was a nice undercurrent of 'you never know what someone is going through' and also a balance of real problems vs third world problems feeling just a real and painful to the person experiencing them.

Don’t Answer the Phone by Miranda Rijks 4 stars from me Superb, as one would expect from the Queen of the twisty psychological thriller, Miranda Rijks! A genuine act of kind bravery opens up a whole new world for Daniella. She follows up this altruistic action with a serious error of judgement that threatens everything in her life, including those she loves most. The book works so very well because it is easy to relate to Daniella a lot of the time - and easy to understand how the situations she finds herself in arise.

Hidden Truth by C D Steele This is the third book in the series and my first introduction to ex-MI6 turned private investigator, Joe Wilde. The author certainly doesn't shy away from controversial and unpleasant story lines and Hidden Truth is perhaps not one for those of a delicate disposition. As seems to be the way, both Joe Wilde and DI Carl Whatmore are working multiple cases - one of which involves a pair of lack lustre killers who specialise in a rather brutal line of delivery.

Hidden Truth by C D Steele is the 3rd in the series featuring ex-MI6 turned PI, Joe Wilde 💙📚 #BookSky @rararesources.bsky.social

Blind Pursuit by Rob Sinclair 4 Stars from me Right from the start there is an immediate sense that something's not quite right with the information that being provided. Then it cuts to Callum, who's dealing with grief and confusion, trying to make sense of what he's just been told. At this point you can already sense there's more going on beneath the surface, and I already had hunches and many questions.

Evil in the Family by Michael Wood 5 Stars from me ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I don't know how he does it but Michael Wood just gets better and better. His is a true and authentic voice in the crime thriller / police procedural / psychological genre with an instantly recognisable writing style that captures the reader from the very first page. This, the 3rd in the Dr Olivia Winter series, is the best so far, in it Wood has mastered the craft and brings each and every person to vivid life - albeit usually straight before dispatching them in an often gruesome death.

Voices from the Dead by Tony Bassett 4 Stars from me There's so much that really scratches the itch for me in this book. There's a beauty influencer - honestly this intrigues me, the rise from being either just an ordinary kid, or the popular kid, or even the quiet no one notices me kid, into an adored influencer. Just incredible and I find it fascinating. Anyway, our Candy Goodhope (awesome name) is exactly that but who kills her and why?

The House of Mystery by Joy Ellis 4 Stars from me Goodness me I was absolutely spellbound by the 'gift of auric sight' that Ellie has. Wow what a wonderful concept, I'd love to have that. Early on in the book we find a few similar characters with psychic gifts and I knew straight away I was going to love reading this. Such a clever take on the subject that truly gave me chills at times.

It’s Not What You Think by Clare Mackintosh 5 Stars from me There's clever, and there's twisty, and then there's this. Clare Mackintosh has nailed it with this book - as Missy Elliott put it so well 'Is it worth it? Let me work it. I put my thang down, flip it and reverse it' because the minute I thought I knew what was going on, the story flipped on its head.

Murder at the Water Mill by Jon Harris 4 Stars from me This is a ridiculously charming read - and I had to remind myself that it was book 4 in a series as I didn't at all feel like I had jumped in part way through as can sometimes be the case. PI Julia is a fearless character and she was fun to follow as she steps in where the local police fail to, and collaborates with the water mill trust to investigate what they believe to be a murder.

The Surgeon by John Nicholl 4 Stars from me I think this is the first John Nicholl book that I've read and I greatly enjoyed receiving the story via short chapters of differing POVs throughout this book that delivered the story in satisfying chunks. Professor Alexander Aitken was a great character. Horrible, but great. Attaching a word like 'innocent' to him is almost comedic and the author handles that arc beautifully.

The Mysterious Affair of Judith Potts by Robert Thorogood 4.5 Stars from me I've watched, rather than read, the previous installments of this series and so was delighted to find that the books reads exactly like the TV episodes. And having seen the actors on screen really brought the book to life for me as it was easy to picture them all, and in particular Judith's wonderful house, as I read.
