I don't remember seeing an image of Earth before that captures the (thin, fragile, tiny layer of) atmosphere so clearly. I mean, look at that.

It's really sad to see the @developer.chrome.com account pumping out AI-style replies that don't really make sense.

These accounts used to be run by DevRel. Now they're run by marketing.

I originally dismissed this as some developer making a joke.

But, after watching her explain it and reading the blog-post, I'm stoked to try it, and I just love when my favorite actors turn out to be geeks too!

Eh, I recently had to work with it, and I found that I still love C# as a language - lots but not too much of neat syntax.

Amazing hacks behind this pure-CSS blurhash implementation.

Hm they are not encoded as actual frames? I didn't know video containers had layers.

Ohh I was just wondering if this exists.

Given that avif polyfills used <video> element to render the AV1 stream, I think it should be possible to reuse them to polyfill this progressive rendering too? Just render frames as normal video stream?

For the record, I often enjoy movies/TV based on books, even when they miss or diverge in aspects of the story like in the aforementioned Martian (heck, sometimes even more so, eg with the Silo series vs book), but in this case it was a fun movie but the immersion just wasn't there.

Idk, for me the loss of scientific details was pretty glaring, and the psychological aspects of it all weren't conveyed very convincingly...

The last part might be partly due to Ryan Gosling's casting, it was difficult to take him as seriously as eg Matt Damon in Martian.
