LMAOOOOOO RACHEL!!!!!
I love how he is so unabashed in his usage!! As one should be with delayed resolutions (perhaps not applicable to all situations, though I feel I’m setting myself up for a Rachel joke with this one lol)
Anyways one more Mitsuda for the next upload and then we're moving on to the next composer! My self-imposed rules are 1) has to be from a game I have played, 2) has to be from different games to get a sense of their range (can see myself breaking that rule when I get to Hamauzu and Yamane lol)
nascent traces of yearning pop ballads with Dorian mode, 4-3 suspensions and clave rhythm variants lending subtle syncopated feels to Corridors of Time and To Far Away Times but in his PS1 era he is FULL ON with Small Two of Pieces and Unstolen Jewel--breathy female vocals, guitars, sad piano, etc.
the PS1 era really saw him fully lean into his love for Celtic folk--fast triplets, 6/8, pentatonic scales, flutes, fiddles, hornpipes, strummy guitars, not only for Xenogears but Chrono Cross as well. Also this is the time where he fully flexed his songwriting chops. In Chrono Trigger we saw very--
which of course hits like a truck 70+ hours later during those epic ending cutscenes where Small Two of Pieces in all its 80s power ballad glory is blasting away and I'm weeping into my ramen in my dorm room in 1998, god I love Xenogears 😭 but anyways regarding Mitsuda's musical evolution--
Mitsuda month in my composer series continues! One of my all-timers 😍 A Distant Promise - Xenogears (full vid: youtu.be/sdssnsSiK10?...) I love how this one plays a significant narrative role in the game as Fei remarks it's familiar to him when he hears it on the music box at Citan's house early on-

Work in progress of Super Mario RPG fan art. Mallow, Geno, Mario, and Toadstool strike action poses in the front, while Bowser smiles sinisterly with a chain chomp in the back, twice the size of the rest of the party. They're standing on a 3D block, reminiscent of the stages in the SNES game. Also Peach is wearing sneakers.
Going back through the WIP pile and hating myself for not finishing this, what the hell.
The character/s vs how you drew them

AHHH THANK YOU ❤️❤️❤️❤️!!
Anyways I've prepped two more Mitsuda tracks for the next month or so, will have more to say regarding how different facets of his writing have emerged and expanded over time
the latter is also played during the T-rex fight at Tyrano Lair even though Frog has nothing to do with Azala or the Reptites but it's such a banger it would have been a crime not to squeeze it into a few more boss fights lol
Worth noting these aspects (fast triplets in 4/4) are present in the theme for Guardia Castle, where our froggy hero has deep loyalty to the royal family, and the boss theme for the second Masa and Mune fight, where he has a fated connection to the legendary Masamune sword.
Characterized by Mitsuda's trademark strong melodic writing, beautiful simple chord progressions and 4-3 suspensions, we can also hear the Celtic influence w/the whimsical fast triplets, militaristic 4/4 time, the heinous key of G# minor. Appropriately conveying solemnity, wistfulness, and chivalry
