We've been using it with Latin for a few years now, using our own question banks. Retention of vocab has never been better.
The theory of change here is that giving people more things to work on means they are more likely to improve. And that telling everyone that they aren’t as good as you thought will motivate them to do so.
Good to see a balanced debate about ‘reading for pleasure’ and debate the term too.
Context matters - reading in primary school is very different to secondary. My experience with struggling teen readers is that it's the wrong starting point for them, even if it is a worthy end goal.
Looking forward to this.
I will be speaking about our low cost, low cringe, high staff buy-in approach to instructional coaching.
But, without them, how will we know who gets the fidget spinners?

Students don't struggle to write well because they lack talent or effort but because we demand essays before they've mastered sentences.
My new book, Writing Fitness, sets out a different model

I find it wild that if you’re verbally abusive to a police officer or a nurse you can be prosecuted, but we are saying that when it happens to teachers it’s not even appropriate to send a child home.
One day, they'll make a Netflix series about your headship.
Kinetic Letters transformed handwriting at our school. It's well worth a look.
New blog post.
Ideologically driven approach to SEND fails to help "neurodiverse" pupils

Yes, we do, and, funnily enough, we are already working with Amy and her colleagues on developing a writing curriculum!
It's always worth looking at the books being studied in Y6 and thinking "How do we prepare our children for this with earlier texts?" To get to 'The Hobbit' we also have 'The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe' and 'Beowulf' laying the groundwork for fantasy adventure stories in prior year groups.

The Writing Framework has just been published, and I'm very pleased to have been part of the sector panel which helped produce this important document.
I'm optimistic that the framework will help leaders to further develop the teaching of writing in their schools.

Hi Bluesky people 👋
Here’s my latest post on school leadership

🤣
Reading fluency a key priority at Sacred Heart.
Our new reading bookmarks have arrived for every child and we love them.
Thanks for putting up with us being huge copycats @andrewpercivaled.bsky.social
These are essential to any school improvement strategy.
I’m delighted to have contributed to this series! @triciamoss.bsky.social and I wanted to bring together everything we wished we’d known back when we were starting out in leadership of the English curriculum. We hope How To Lead It, Primary English does just that for primary English subject leaders!
Yes, they have been brilliant.
We don't. The majority of our pupils do not have English as their first language, so we think it is more pressing for them to learn this than add another language in the mix. Waiting until Y5 and 6 works well in this regard. Nothing in the NC says they have to study another language in Y3 and 4.
We think it works well in primary as a foundation for learning a modern language in KS3 and to build understanding of the development of English over time. Ultimately, we think Latin is just worth knowing for its own sake. We teach it for an hour a week in Y5 and 6 and follow the Minimus scheme.
Thank you, Simone. Very pleased that you felt we were worth a second visit!
Today I was lucky enough to visit Stanley Road Primary School for the second time. The calm atmosphere, polite children and very high standards have blown me away again.
