Podcast Episode · The Gaily Show · 03/13/2025 · 45m
This week for our Thinking Clearly, Thinking Queerly episode we talked with @laralillibridge.bsky.social about writing craft and writing queerly.
And with everything going on right now, we need to be thinking queerly about how we write!

I'm not against the idea of daylight savings time as a rule but not really a fan of spring ahead in practice.

“Sometimes it is easier to see the trauma in others than it is in our own lives. It is in reading that we find validation. And in I Know Why She Stayed I had that experience, over and over. I did not know the term “economic abuse” but I have suffered from it. It is that shared experience that gives us words and power, for if we can name it, we can mourn what we lost, allow ourselves to feel rage, and finally release our pain and say, ‘never again.’” - Lara Lillibridge, author of The Truth About Unringing Phones: Essays on Yearning and Girlish: Growing Up in a Lesbian Home
When we decided to share our stories, we did so because we wanted wanted other women to understand that they are not alone. When we asked @laralillibridge.bsky.social
to write the foreword for the memoir, we had no idea how perfect her understanding of our work would be. Thank you, Lara!

Yes, You Should Go.
Persistence requires adventure
When I got divorced, I promised myself I'd say yet to any opportunity that came my way. I 100% agree with Amy Fish.

I may not be the perfect mother, but at least I’ve taught my boys not to sleep before Brooklyn and never go 88 mph.

My favorite boss died in the AIDS epidemic, and when he selected his funeral home he made them promise to put out bowls of branded emery boards so everyone would have a party favor.

Storytelling/speaking is an art separate from writing. It can take a while to find your spoken voice as opposed to your written voice.

Sometimes it takes me a while to be able to lower my defenses and accept feedback. It took a few weeks, but I finally tried a CP's suggestion on my WIP and OMG I love it so much more now! #booksky #writingCommunity #Memoirists #CNF #writers

I mostly write in a cabin while the kids are at their dad's. I only keep a few changes of clothes there, so there's no big laundry pile, no teenaged athletic gear, and not as many fun craft projects to use to avoid writing. But if I'm in the zone I'll write anywhere, even defaulting to phone apps.
