Opinion | Democracy in 2024 was noisy and chaotic. It was also resilient. Democracy in 2024 worked as it always has. It was messy and noisy and produced muddled results. .

This analysis concludes that in 2024 “voters […] opted for greater freedom and closer ties with the West and rejected attempts at intimidation, manipulation and disinformation”.

Largely true. But the same “West” made a number of largely opposite choices.

Last year, Lake Forest, Illinois displayed a menorah for the 8 nights of Hanukkah.

This year, the city has decided to only display the menorah for a few hours.

Removing the menorah, a symbol of hope and resilience, sends a bad message: that Jewishness is something to be hidden away.
