When Kaveh woke the next morning, he was draped half-upside down across the couch, legs slung over the back and face pressed against the fabric covering Alhaitham’s broad chest.

This time, there was no hesitation as Kaveh pulled him in again, capturing his lips in an even more heated kiss.

Somewhere distant in the back of Kaveh’s mind, he knew this was a terrible idea.

Unfortunately, that part of him had very little influence over his decisions right now, mind helmed by some drunken, Alhaitham-obsessed, nugget-hungry urchin.

Tighnari and Cyno exchanged knowing looks while Kaveh continued sputtering incoherently.

Alhaitham, still holding tightly onto his waist, just blinked dazedly. “... So we kissed for no reason?”

His lips felt tender, face now burning outright, hair thoroughly disheveled from Alhaitham’s wandering hands.

“...So,” Tighnari said slowly from the driver’s seat, holding up a bag of food with an unreadable expression. “Turns out there’s no couples discount.”

The sound of nugget-money exchanging through the window flew straight over his head, crowded out by the burning sensation spreading through his chest.

Cyno clearing his throat finally made Kaveh jolt backward like he’d been burned, breaking away with an audible smooch.

He could feel Alhaitham’s heart pounding rapidly beneath his palm, thumping in time with his own. And when Alhaitham tilted his head and brushed his tongue against Kaveh’s lower lip, he nearly melted into the upholstery, letting out a ragged gasp.

Kaveh’s eyes fluttered shut, mind struggling to comprehend that this was really happening. One hand, as though of its own free will, dropped to Alhaitham’s chest, fingers curling into the fabric of his shirt to pull him closer, fingers knotting more tightly into his hair.

The second Tighnari greeted the cashier, both of them moved at once. Fueled by late-night idiocy, alcohol, and a burning desire that had been simmering between them all semester, their lips met in a slow, messy kiss.

“Proof,” Kaveh repeated dumbly, distracted by the sensation of Alhaitham’s large palms on his sides, warm and insistent through the thin fabric of his shirt.

“Proof,” Alhaitham agreed.

Kaveh swallowed hard and nodded, hands unwittingly drifting backward until they tangled in Alhaitham’s hair.

“They’ll probably want proof,” Kaveh reasoned unreasonably. “I don’t wanna blow my chance at free nuggets...”

“Well. Good. That’s - that’s settled then,” he stammered, words suddenly becoming much harder to form as he became very aware of how little space there was between them.

Tighnari twisted in his seat, eyebrow arched expectantly. “Still committing to the discount story?”

Much to his surprise, Alhaitham’s lips parted on a warm exhale, hands lifting to curl around Kaveh’s wrists. “Yes.”

Kaveh went completely still as the car rolled up to the window, heart pounding erratically against his ribs at the sudden sincerity in Alhaitham’s voice.

“Ugh. Fine,” Kaveh groaned, tugging him closer until their foreheads touched. Then, voice turning saccharine sweet, he cooed, “Oh my dearest Alhaitham, my big sexy hunk of a roommate, won’t you please be my doting boyfriend for this one tiny, very important moment?”

His thumbs moved without thinking, stroking unconsciously along Alhaitham’s cheekbones as he spoke.

Alhaitham leaned drunkenly into the touch, eyes softening and going slightly unfocused. “You’re the one calling me names. Maybe you should pretend to like me first.”

He reached out and clapped one hand on either side of Alhaitham’s face, pulling him in until they were forced to lock eyes. “Okay, listen here you gorgeous asshole. Just pretend to like me for 2 minutes and we get free food. Understand?”

Ah. Kaveh nodded sagely, turning to Alhaitham with a serious expression that very clearly said: don’t fuck this up for me.

Kaveh crossed his arms tightly over his chest, muttering under his breath about how useless Alhaitham was as a fake boyfriend while slumping deeper into the seat.

But when Tighnari placed the order, he conveniently left out the so-called discount.

The car went silent save for muffled laughter behind his back. Blinking slowly, Alhaitham responded, “That was... oddly specific.”

“Just get me the fucking nuggets.”

“Of course, 𝘣𝘢𝘣𝘦,” Alhaitham replied, something unreadable passing through his expression.

Kaveh’s cheeks burned, jabbing an accusatory finger at those distractingly large pecs. “This bastard wouldn’t know romance if it - if...” he faltered, grasping for the ever-slipping range of his lexicon before continuing, “... if it BIT HIM IN HIS STUPID PERFECT ASS.”

As Kaveh tried to parse why his statement had come out jumbled, Cyno huffed, “Good luck. You act married, but you couldn’t go five minutes without bickering. Zero romance.”
