What Is It Like to Be a Man? What is this thing we’re trying to be?

And Duke’s not transparent about which nonprofits receive funds, how those decisions are made, and what restrictions are on funds

Even when they’re trying to brag, Duke can’t help showing their paternalism toward Durham

Vincent Price bashing the Duke Respect Durham campaign from the podium at the Duke Center for Community Engagement launch is not a great look.

This is Willem Arondeus.

He attacked the 1943 Amsterdam civil registry office to destroy records that would be used by the Nazis to identify their targets.

He succeeded, but was captured due to someone betraying him.

His last words were: "Tell people that homosexuals are not cowards."

I find this helpful not only bc it diagnoses our present moment, but also bc it makes the right feel less inevitable. They’re not a force of nature—they just organized.

(Now, it’s easier to organize when you have capital behind you, but still)

Today marks the 500th anniversary of Anabaptism. We honor those who resisted church and state violence, rejecting corruption to embody Jesus’ radical way. They built communities of mutual care, economic sharing, and discipleship from below. May we learn from their courage today. #Anabaptism500

I really do believe AI is inherently fascist. Both the resources it takes to generate and the soullessness of its output render it entirely irredeemable, but it also hollows out any meaning we can get from communication and art and reduces human life to an aesthetic it wears like a skinsuit.

Utterly desolate times. Saltwater siphoned down our throats and then we wonder why we're thirsty.

Religious Leaders Experiment with A.I. in Sermons (Gift Article) Modern religious leaders are experimenting with A.I. just as earlier generations examined radio, television and the internet.

Recent local decisions around Durham Public School bussing highlight how absolutely critical it is that we build a city where schools are central, walkable places in our communities.

Urban planning has failed to make this the case for decades and we MUST change that.

Mary’s Song of Praise

46 And Mary[a] said,

‘My soul magnifies the Lord,
47
    and my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour,
48
for he has looked with favour on the lowliness of his servant.
    Surely, from now on all generations will call me blessed;
49
for the Mighty One has done great things for me,
    and holy is his name.
50
His mercy is for those who fear him
    from generation to generation.
51
He has shown strength with his arm;
    he has scattered the proud in the thoughts of their hearts.
52
He has brought down the powerful from their thrones,
    and lifted up the lowly;
53
he has filled the hungry with good things,
    and sent the rich away empty.
54
He has helped his servant Israel,
    in remembrance of his mercy,
55
according to the promise he made to our ancestors,
    to Abraham and to his descendants for ever.’

Y'all hear the good news? Well...it's good news for some of us.

I already felt helpless against my own body, but then I also had to contend with this vast, malicious machine that already takes tens of thousands of dollars from my family each year.

So yeah, that'll mess with your head and create a lot of resentment toward the ghouls who run these systems.

Y'all, we went back and forth for 6 months! The whole time, itching, swelling, nerve pain like shingles, even on Allegra and Benadryl. This was me for 6 months while their AI or some vampire ex-doctor made up reasons why I didn't need medicine:

1 year ago 1 0 1 0

Their reason? They say I had to try antihistamines for 6 wks. Which I'd just done!

I appeal. Another 6 weeks later, BCBS says I also have to be tested for tuberculosis! Even my allergist hadn't seen that one before. TB has NOTHING to do with my condition.

1 year ago 1 0 1 0

I took a quadruple does of extra strength Allegra and multiple Benadryl every day for 6 weeks. It kept me from having any more anaphylactic reactions, but didn't touch the hives.

So after 6 weeks, my allergist put in for insurance approval...which Blue Cross Blue Shield denied.

1 year ago 1 0 1 0

My body is in a constant state of allergic reaction to no external stimuli.

But there's a treatment! A drug called Xolair. But it's very expensive. Like ~$20k a dose.

So you have to try high doses of antihistamines for 6 weeks before insurance will pay for it.

2 years ago, something in my immune system got out of whack. I had hives/lesions and swelling all over my body. I ended up in the ER for anaphylaxis.

Turns out I have something called Chronic Idiopathic Urticaria.

Two things can both be true about AI:
1) Many of its outputs are horrifyingly bad, either aesthetically or factually;
2) It’s morally objectionable regardless of the quality of the outputs.

These dummies couldn’t think of a 5th thing for “violent activity” so they just put “violence”

Which is even crazier bc with 4 things the columns would’ve matched. Total bird brains
