Also as someone who participated in the protest, the way they describe it is laughable. Yes there was noise. Yes someone was tapping one of the windows in time with our chanting. But the idea that a small bunch of peaceful protesters was such a scary threat is…telling.

Bell’s AI Data Centre approved by council amidst chaotic protest | Globalnews.ca Stopping and starting several times - councilors were often drowned out by protesters chanting outside, banging on windows, and honking horns.

“Bell’s rezoning application for the project site was approved in 21 days. Approval for the development agreement took 19 days…Formal construction will likely begin in early May.”

YOU CANNOT TELL ME THIS IS NORMAL.

Well those newly-appointed councillors did exactly what they were paid to do. Congratulations, Scotty.

“Once we realized that the big ‘public meetings’ about the data center were propaganda sessions, we held our own events to expose the disinformation and present the truth and discuss next action steps…

Make resistance to the data center part of local culture.”

really good suggestions here:

The left is cheering for leaders they don’t really believe in It is strange to see progressive voters rooting so wholeheartedly for Prime Minister Mark Carney and Hungary's Péter Magyar, leaders who, let’s face it, lean pretty heavily to the right.

You know an RM council meeting is legit when they lock journalists and observers out. Just saying.

The full illustration I did for @taplingzines.bsky.social "We've Always Been Here"

The zine depicts queer couples throughout cultures and history and I had the honours of portraying a Japanese lesbian couple in an underground bar during the 80s✨

Living in small-town southern AB in the mid-90s, I thought Lethbridge was a pretty cool place.

Driving through mid-aughts, with more life experience, I thought that had been a perception/context error.

Was I wrong? Were they always cool? Did they get cool again? Because this is pretty lit.

The problem of selective feminism: Why we need more than wellbeing interventions to prevent misogyny and gender-based violence By Steve Roberts, Stephanie Wescott & Karen Whybro

"When the focus settles on healing boys’ pain, instead of centering consequences for the underlying beliefs that both benefit men and boys and drive gendered violence, the centre of gravity shifts. Attention is drawn away from how harm is structured and distributed."

This essay really nails it.
