My life is more than being trans. I've been a server, line cook, farm hand, nanny, Lyft driver, teacher, receptionist, job coach, housing navigator, campaign manager, field director, Political Director, Rabbi, and Human Rights Commissioner.
People ask why I'm running. Aside from rent and taxes being too high, pay too low, small businesses vanishing, and an increase in houselessness? Aside from capitulating to a hostile government? Aside from empty words with no action?
I'm running for all the trans people. Every single one.
MY FELLOW OREGONIANS After weeks of consultation with the people in my life, it has become apparent no one is coming to save us. We need to save ourselves. Tina Kotek has handed over our private data to a hostile government, tried to limit local control by preempting the Pre-K tax, cut funding for small business grants and rural farmers, and played politics with our food. Rather than use her position as Governor to elevate working people, she forced a regressive transportation bill through a special session and then delayed signing it. She has bullied her way through Salem, burning bridges of all kinds. Oregonians deserve better. We deserve someone who reflects our values of kindness, reciprocity, and consensus building. We deserve someone who is willing to do the business of government in plain view. You deserve someone who will fight tooth and nail for you.
MY FELLOW OREGONIANS part 2 That's why I am announcing my run for Governor of Oregon. Enough is enough. While I have my criticisms of Tina's job performance, I intend for this campaign to be centered on ideas. Not personal attacks. That said, I will fight like hell for working people. No one understands how to fight like a trans woman. Our very existence relies on our ability to resist the status quo. I have served as a teacher, support worker, housing specialist, Rabbi, and Human Rights Commissioner for Austin, Texas. I want to know if the working people of Oregon now want me to serve them as their 40th Governor. Let's find out, together.
