Briefly putting on my hat as @asn-amnat.bsky.social President: The ASN Council has just distributed an updated message to the American Society of Naturalists members with information about actions that can be undertaken to advocate for science, and scientists, within the US:

For those who don't get the joke: Trump kindly asked Google Maps to rename the Gulf of Mexico. It shall soon be known as the Gulf of America. The US is now classified as a ‘sensitive country’ alongside China and Russia in Google.
Want to tilt and stack your #maps in #rstats?
install.packages("layer") works again!
Thank you so much @egorkotov.bsky.social for reviving our layer 📦

Two of the greatest people (and 3 cats) in the world have now lost not one, but two houses to fires in California.
And yeah, these two ladies are not who you want standing with you at a craps table. Their luck is terrible!
i'm excited to finally see this out in mSphere. we worked with @teagueo.bsky.social and @batconintl.bsky.social to characterize novel blood bacteria of Mexican free-tailed bats in the US and showcase seasonal infection in our longitudinally sampled Oklahoma colony.

Javi's work is the best and I've been so lucky to work with him on a number of projects (including Bat Island: geni.us/BatIsland)
Great paper surveying practices around occupancy modeling in ecology doi.org/10.1111/ecog... from @ben-r-goldstein.bsky.social & co. Not a flattering view -- from data collection to statistical methods to peer review we're falling short, but many actionable suggestions here!

I don't see a problem in that
Keep it up y'all
Got a Researchgate notification that our paper on counting fruit bats in Zambia was cited in a study of UFOs. That's a first!
@teagueo.bsky.social
That's amazing!
Hahahaha ;)
Dude.
Absolutely huge news for amphibian conservation. The lethal fungus Bd has been causing huge and steady declines in frogs over the last decades, so seeing resistant populations establishing post-reintroduction is really fantastic.
