Great @rhg.com piece on the Fiscal Revenue challenges facing China

- Fiscal revenue grew less than 1% last year after declining in 2024
- The total Deficit is ~10% of GDP vs. NGDP growth of ~4%
- The largest increase in deficits over the last few years has been due to collapsing Land Sales

What Europe totally needs is another middling tank compared to a 10000unit production run of the latest Leo.

Totale Franz Josef Strauß Bestätigung. Deutsche Bombe let’s go. Atomwiedereinstieg, Aufrüstung und Abschreckung. Zum Glück ist ja internationales Recht eh Fake, von daher ist der 2+4 Betrag da eh egal und Frankreich und England werden sich sicherlich nicht daran stören

I think financial market participants have a fundamentally dated view of the fiscal positions in the US vs Europe

Since the Euro crisis, EU has de-leveraged, while USG has levered up

Right now EU is running NGDP growth well above fiscal deficits, while US is running deficits well above NGDP growth

If the side effect of Trump is the German bomb and a restart of our nuclear reactors, that’d be a huge win for decarbonization and the economy 😬
And total vindication of a Russian hating, nuclear power and weapons supporting chancellor candidate from ~ 46y ago

Large caps > Small caps

Existing firms > New firms

Incumbents > Startups

Many forget that when they own the equity market, they own the existing, listed firms and in a dynamic economy earnings growth is shared with new, yet-to-exist and smaller, unlisted firms

Interesting thread

Fascinating that in the most affluent country in the history of humanity where 'middle class to instantly, totally destitute' rarely (not 'never') happens, it is received wisdom amongst content creators and consumers that it happens often enough to worry about it constantly

Happy new year!

Google does 3 times all of his companies‘ life time post tax income per year at a slightly higher valuation and SK Hynix has handily beaten musk on a 200B valuation or so. If memory remains so strong SK H might just join the 100B post tax income club too, presumably still on a 200B valuation 🤪

I think I might be low key attracted to the Des Moines class heavy cruisers. Like, the *fully automatic* dual purpose 8 inch guns are the predecessors to all modern western naval artillery systems afaik. Those guns were radar guided. Absolute peak.

And usually I’m all about the CVs

Telling someone that to relax after said at least work-related footnote trawling I'm watching a drachinifel video on the history of the Fritz-X seemingly made me seem no more well adjusted haha

Despite my undying personal love of sailing, I’m actually much more interested in WW2 and beyond era battleships but I do enjoy his age of sail videos too. Logistics etc are great

Hes so good. I love that channel. The video on the mark-10 torpedo is one of my favorites of all time.

Sometimes I think I'm a vaguely sane and normal person, then I tell someone that digging through the footnotes of federal budget documents for hours over the weekend is fun to me and they very quickly rid me of this illusion.

She once spent days arguing with former fed economists and banking professionals over how reserve management actually works on Twitter and called everyone who contradicted her a sexist because she’s a woman and a financial journalist who couldn’t be wrong. the critique was very, very polite too. lol

I can’t blame them for not pushing back against the NPU, that was MSFT‘s stupid windows requirement. What a waste of die space. Just costs margin for no user benefit. Bigger vector and or matrix units or GPU slices would’ve been actually usable and brought the customer benefits.

Although there is a thing to be said about both running too conservative a ship. AMD‘s conservatism is perfectly understandable given the near death experience but they really should’ve secured more wafers from zen2 onwards… and invested more in the rocm driver stack…

Can u imagine AMD‘s management going off like this? I certainly can’t but the ceo and cfo are also incredibly good at their jobs
