never on here but my dad told me john darnielle posted about my album review (?!) so hi

2/2 pays as much attention to what we're up to musically as to the guy at center stage -- which is where, for me, this album really soars, there's an ensemble feel to it that thrills me. can't wait for you-all to hear it. as duty requires I will be on here banging the drum about it tomorrow!
this review of the album we have coming out tomorrow is critical in the very best way -- the author asks good & fair questions about how my lyrics work differently within the more-details environment of a stage-musical conceit, and, v. importantly for me, 1/2

(2/2) excited for the album drop tomorrow and to hear everyone else’s thoughts on it!!! as always it’s a pleasure consuming everything y’all put out :)
author of the review here — wow, what a surprise to see this!!! i’m very honored, haha :)) so glad you got what i was going for w the review; i only went in-depth with those questions because i felt the album deserved that kind of thoughtful appraisal, & i’m so happy to see it made sense (1/2)
absolutely my pleasure!!!🩵
crazy world we live in….!

In the summer of 1994, John Darnielle was hunched over a Panasonic boombox, committing to tape what would become the Mountain Goats' first truly great album, 'Zopilote Machine.' www.pastemagazine.com/music/the-mo...
got to write a long-ass essay for paste’s weekly time capsule about one of @themountaingoats.bsky.social’s earliest records, zopilote machine — which is still phenomenal even thirty years down the line
gonna go by fly-debate smart from now on
wrote a little (read: gargantuan!!) essay for @pastemagazine.bsky.social about car seat headrest’s "how to leave town," which turned ten last month. this album kept me afloat in the early aughts of high school, so writing this meant a lot to me! please check it out💘
john darnielle 🤝 t-pain
shitting on tallahassee
the t in t-pain stands for tallahassee. “i hate my hometown” this, “my hometown sucks” that… talk to me when there’s a famous rapper literally named “[your hometown] pain”
also still on twitter at @epsteingross so find me there too!
really excited to see more people use starter packs like highly specific letterboxd lists. all things as they should be

what did i do to give the impression i like colleen hoover and the word “bodice” and how do i stop doing it as soon as humanly possible
not sure why my brand-new-to-bluesky algorithm seems to be almost entirely filled with ~spicy booktok~ content but the fact that the app perceived me and immediately went “oh yeah, she’s definitely into incredibly mediocre smut” is dealing irreparable amounts of damage to my self-image
oh also! i’m based in NYC & a current student at Barnard College at Columbia! and i’m a sucker for well-written insufferable female characters, music that makes my friends vow to never give me the aux at parties, absurdist theatre with heavy meta commentary, and poems that use words incorrectly
obligatory intro post: i’m associate music editor at Paste Magazine, although i also tend to cover a lot of film, television, culture, and everything in between! i previously wrote for Observer too. i love olive green, singers who can’t sing, & having opinions. there is no hill i wouldn’t die on <3
i caved. hello bluesky
