We have updated our recommendations!

We strongly oppose all amendments brought to the Elections team’s proposals, which would seriously undermine our deliberative democracy and encourage partisan siloing.

We are neutral on the amendment to our own PR bylaw change.

Proportional Representation for Boston DSA:

Proportional representation helps ensure Boston DSA's big tent is represented in our chapter leadership. The current system, like the U.S. electoral system, relies on winner-take-all races and risks locking minority factions and independents out of leadership.

In our current system, if caucus A gets 34%, caucus B gets 33%, and caucus C gets 32% (and there is even distribution of caucus C votes if they are eliminated), Caucus A gets 7 seats, Caucus B gets 3 seats, and Caucus C gets 1 seat. Under the proposed system, Caucus A would get 4 seats, Caucus B would get 4 seats, and Caucus C would get 3 seats.

Boston DSA needs proportional representation- let's have a leadership body that reflects our chapter!

Endorsement Recommendation for Boston DSA

VOTE NO ON ERIKA UYTERHOEVEN FOR STATE SENATE

Read the full explanation for our position, which is based on these themes:
Compromise and political trading vs. principled opposition
Failure to work with Boston DSA in such a manner as to engage with our democratic decision-making
Outstanding questions about co-governance: how will DSA’s deliberative decision making weigh against other coalition partners?
Recent lack of endorsement for our Somerville mayoral candidate Willie Burnley Jr.
No clear plan to backfill the 27th Middlesex District State House seat with a DSA candidate
Concerning vote-whipping tactics which risk the integrity of our member democracy

VOTE NO ON THIS ENDORSEMENT

Boston MUG
endorses Eric L. #1 for SIOC
Recommends Travis B #2

Eric L. is a MUG member running to further a partyist vision of Boston DSA’s relationship with its elected officals- building an independent socialist bloc that is responsive to the democratic decisions of DSA.

Eric is co-chair of the Merrimack valley neighborhood, and is a former member of the Boston DSA CC and has worked as a volunteer on countless socialist campaigns.

Boston MUG recommends members rank experienced and principled organizer Travis B #2 on your SIOC ballot
